..Scattered Light Snow Showers Could Potentially Impact the
Morning Commute...

Areas of light snow and flurries across southern Indiana and
north central Kentucky will continue through the morning. Light
accumulations of snow of a dusting to a few tenths of an inch will
be possible in heavier areas of snow, potentially leading to
slick spots on the roads.

Drivers should use caution and slow down in snow showers during
the morning commute. Snow showers are expected to taper off later
today.

KYTC crews and contractors have been working around the clock to keep roads as clear and as safe as possible. Most interstates in District 5 are snow-covered and could potentially be hazardous.

Reminders:
❄️Avoid unnecessary travel. Staying off the roads allows our crews to clear and treat roadways more effectively and also helps keep paths clear for emergency responders.

If you must travel:
❄️Drive slowly and increase your following distance.
❄️Equip your vehicle with an emergency kit (chargers, snacks, blankets, water, medications).
❄️Approach intersections with non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops.
❄️Give plows and salt trucks plenty of room to work.
❄️Before heading out, check road conditions in real-time at snowky.ky.gov.📲

Precipitation will transition back to snow this morning as the back side of the low pressure system pivots through the area. Additional light snow accumulations are expected, with the greatest amounts along and north of Interstate 64.

If you must commute in the morning, remember ice remains a real threat. Consider delaying all travel due to overnight freezing rain. Even treated and plowed pavement will be slick. And, cold temps could create black ice and hazardous conditions on bridges. Make a plan now: If you have to travel, leave early, take it slow, eliminate distractions (both hands on the wheel), and pack an emergency car kit. Tips, info at SnowKY.ky.gov.
