Rossville 4/9/24 8:19 pm-- The Rossville Community School Board has placed Rossville High School principal Terry Thompson on administrative leave essentially ensuring he will not be allowed to come back into the school or discuss the situation with parents. This goes back to a series of events that lead to his administrative leave last year spearheaded by Dr. Jim Hanna, Superintendent of Rossville Community Schools. At that time, Thompson was allowed to come back but under the condition he signed a letter agreeing to resign at the end of this school year. Rossville board policy states any action on administrative leave has to be voted on at the next board meeting however, this is the 5th meeting the board has held since Mr. Thompson signed the document.
Mr. Thompson's forced resignation was accepted at Tuesday nights board meeting, with administrative leave effective immediately. President Joe Hufford did this despite over 250 signatures asking to keep him, which represents more than two-thirds of the families in the middle/senior high school as he believes this issue has divided the community. A service will be contracted for admin in the building as there is currently no vice principal.
Those two-thirds of parents are very upset as administrative leave means he is banned from the property, including graduation. Many parents and students are upset because that means Thompson will not be allowed to see students graduate that he has been with for nearly 6 years.
