Dear Krema Community,

Creating TheTeaWithKrema has been such a wonderful journey. I’ve enjoyed learning more about myself and Ema, listening to the stories of each guests, and creating so many fun memories. It’s been almost four years since Ema and I decided to go for it and create this podcast.

After all this time, I’ve reached a point where I’m unable to continue the work necessary to coproduce, record, edit, and publish our episodes. This means that TheTeaWithKrema will not be able to continue for the foreseeable future.

I genuinely hope I can find a way to make everything work out again, but until then, we will not be releasing any new episodes. Thank you all for your support throughout this journey!

🤖EPISODE 85: Pop Culture Brew: AI Depictions in Film🎥

Category 2 is the "fun" artificial intelligence or the precursors to the apocalypse. If they were given the chance, they may cause war against humanity. If you've seen any of these movies, you'll notice that there are also some equally sad movies about AI here, but we felt they didn't encompass the apocalypse causing AI. This category is more about the AI that becomes conscious and then makes us sad with their consciousness... If you'd like a good cry, we'd suggest AI or Bicentennial Man.

In our newest episode, we chat about two categories of AI movies. This is Category 1: Apocalyptic Artificial Intelligence. Sadly, Ema has only seen three of these AI movies, and hasn't seen the classics. We know there are way more films with apocalyptic AI, but these were our top choices. Are we missing any from the list? Category 1 is mostly made up of the AI that have either waged war with humans or humans have waged war with them because they fear they may take over the world one day.

“My name is Louisa, but I go by Isa. I am a q***r Pasifika woman who was born in Hawai’i (and no, I’m not Hawaiian😂). I currently reside in Utah and have been here for the last too many years. Update:

Title: The Wolf, The Rat, and The King's Fool by F.K. Maddison
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

F.K. Maddison is a British, Kiribati, and Chinese author from Northern Ireland. This was a fantastic read! It had a slow start, but it picked up toward the end. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, and the main character was low key unlikable at the beginning but she got it together toward the end. The book also ended in a cliffhanger, so I'm definitely picking up the second book in the series so I can find out what happens next!

Title: Iep Jaltok by Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

We are 24 days into May and I am slowly but surely making my way through my Bingo card. I'm two books down (book review for #2 to come shortly!) and slowly making my way through.

For my Poetry square, I read "Iep Jaltok" by Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner. Every year during my Environments and Ecology unit in Grade 9 Science, I start the unit with the video of Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner reciting "Dear Matafele Peinem". It's a good introduction to many themes: climate change, climate justice, activism, and call to action. After, students have to write their own Call to Action to an organization or government agency persuading them to take action or ban certain types of industries being used in their country.

After showing this video for many years, I realized I hadn't read the collection of poems where "Dear Matafele Peinem" is featured, and I was not ready to boo-hoo cry throughout the process either. Growing up in Hawai'i, I can recall the anti-Micronesian sentiments that Ms. Jetnil-Kijiner recounts in her poems. I can remember my classmates with their colorful skirts from large communities, not unlike the Tongan village that raised me, who were treated as outsiders and it makes me so sad and disappointed that we were not more welcoming.

This collection of poems hits home because it recalls an upbringing in Hawai'i while also calling us to recognize the destruction that is being done in the Marshall Islands and at the hands of the U.S. government. The Island nation will be under water if we do not take action. Those who create the least amount of carbon emissions and contribute the least to climate change will be the first affected if we do not take action immediately. This was a fantastic read and a necessary one for those who are passionate about climate change. Welp, if you made it this far, thanks for reading my review. Koia pe malo.😂
