Pre-festival activities are in the rear-view mirror as the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival gets into gear today with things really revving up tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the Downtown Cruise-In.

"If I had to pick something during the festival, that’s probably one of my favorites just because that really gets you excited," Executive Director Leslie Peel said of the Cruise-In.

Along with the Cruise-In, there will be an ice cream social at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, as well as live music from Sunglasses At Night FW at 6:15 p.m. and The Hubie Ashcraft Band at 8:15 p.m. at the courthouse square.

Activities will be held in and around Auburn through Saturday, Aug. 31.

Nostalgia on wheels will roll into Auburn as the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival returns from Aug. 29-31 at various locations.

Tonight is the night Eliza Toth, deeja, and Rainee Perdue perform at The Chateau on Broadway as part of Women Rock, a fundraiser for Women's Fund of Greater Fort Wayne.

The Women's Fund works to ensure “women are economically and physically secure, safe, and healthy.”

The event, which begins at 5 p.m., will be a fundraiser with the Lilly Foundation matching each dollar raised. Along with food and drink, organizers will share their message and enjoy some live music.

“Hopefully, people can enjoy some really good music and also learn about the changes we’re making in Fort Wayne," Women's Fund Development Specialist Kayla Dunn said.

Tickets are $50 and running low.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, The Women’s Fund will host Women Rock at The Chateau on Broadway as a part of their 4th anniversary.

08/21/2024

Arts United are back with their annual Taste of the Arts Fort Wayne on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The day will feature live music, as well as visual artists, performing artists, and comedians, as well as a STEAM Park for the young ones. All to shine a light on the arts and culture of northeast Indiana.

After a few years of the festival being sprawled between Arts Campus, The Landing, and Promenade Park, it will be more centralized along the 300 block of Main Street this year to incorporate the Cultural District that includes The History Center and Hall Community Arts Center, which houses Cinema Center.

“It’s kind of getting the public to understand what all is connected," said Rachelle Reinking, director of communications for Arts United. "What are all these different experiences that are available to everybody here in the city.”

On Saturday, Aug. 24, the streets around the Arts Campus will be closed to make way for 11 stages, artists, vendors, and a STEAM area.

Our latest issue is hitting our vendors with Chicago-area musician Ike Reilly on the cover ahead of his stop at Cinema Center for a screening of "Don't Turn Your Back on Friday Night," a documentary on his life as an underground favorite.

“Objectively, it’s not a conventional rock n’ roll documentary,” Reilly told Whatzup. “I think (co-directors Mike Schmiedeler and Mike O'Brien) made it a little bit more profound about alcoholism and religion and being broke."

Following the screening of the film on Thursday, Aug. 22, Reilly and Schmiedeler will discuss the film and Reilly will perform a set.

Ike Reilly and filmmakers will hit the road to show it to audiences, including Thursday, Aug. 22, at Cinema Center.

Things heat up at Clyde Theatre next week with three national shows in three nights.

Among those shows will be Hawthorne Heights bringing their 20 Years of Tears tour to the venue on Thursday, July 25, with Thursday and special guests Anberlin, Armor For Sleep, Stick To Your Guns, and This Wild Life.

“It’s great to still be creating music and touring,” Hawthorne Heights frontman J.T. Woodruff to Whatzup. “I still appreciate every minute of this.”

Also on The Clyde's schedule will be Warren Haynes on Wednesday, July 24, and The Band Camino on Friday, July 26. You can read about those and more in the latest edition of Whatzup.
