This one could be a game changer for Cuban civil society!!

The rules will allow Cuban entrepreneurs to open bank accounts in the United States, making it easier for them to expand and encouraging other Cubans to start businesses.

To consider for 2024 & Beyond:

THREE THINGS

3 things to defend:
Honor, Home & Country

3 things to control:
Character, Speech & Conduct

3 things to meditate on:
Life, Death & Eternity

3 things to desire :
Happiness, Peace & Serenity (and Faith!!)

“A recent study finds that 10 percent of the planet’s coral reefs most likely to survive to the end of the century are in Cuban waters.”

Why is Cuba different? The short answer is that Cuban corals have been spared the local impacts, such as nutrient pollution, disease and serious overfishing. There is evidence that a healthy ecosystem has more resilience to the effects of climate change, that is, a better ability to recover from the impacts of climate change and other impacts.

We started killing coral reefs in the 1970s – most likely earlier. What is lost in the news about climate change — likely the most serious threat to coral reefs — is the fact that there are many impacts that humans have caused over decades to undermine the health of these magnificent ecosystem...

TRINIDAD

The enchanting cobblestone town of Trinidad is an UNESCO World Heritage site located near stunning beaches and exhilarating mountain scenery in Central Cuba.—just a just 45 minute drive from Guajimico along the Southern coast.

Founded in 1514 by Diego Valezquez, Trinidad has maintained its historical importance as a center of the sugar trade in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It’s one of the best-preserved cities in the Caribbean with its colonial old town streets, neo-baroque main square, Plaza Mayor, and surrounding grand buildings and old world cathedrals.

Exploring here is to be transported and serenaded by talented musicians in nearly every bodega.. you may find yourself wondering how do they not have a record deal? How lucky am I to meander here and ponder its charm? The mystique touches you.

Can’t wait for our walking tour and exploration in 2024!

GUAJIMICO

It’s tucked between Trinidad and Cienfuegos on the southern coast of Cuba, nestled on a cliff overlooking the bay. It’s the perfect home base for marine exploration, kayaking, hiking, bird-watching and soaking in the tropical breeze that rustles by your cabin. Dive sites are a mere 5-min boat ride from shore. Calm, easy diving…this is truly unwinding… but if you want to spice it up, you can take salsa lessons every night…right on premise!

We’re excited to announce in 2024 we’re headed there with historic day tours of the colonial city of Trinidad, modern Cienfuegos and of course the best and ever-changing Havana culture—all included with epic meals, great guides and fun. It’s an authentic and transformational experience….if you choose not to dive, then you gain bonus time to absorb Cuban culture and nature!

CIENFUEGOS

It’s a refreshing oceanfront city along the southern coast of Cuba. It’s flavor is completely different than Havana or Trinidad (all of which are on our Guajimico diving itinerary). What a fun way to see contrasting eras of Cuba and soak in history and culture that opens & transforms your soul.

Built during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Cienfuegos was settled by many Spaniards, mainly Catalans and Asturians who amassed fortunes as businessmen in different branches and they commissioned many of the most emblematic buildings of Cienfuegos that remain today. It’s stunning to stroll through the ornate beauty that surrounds!

We love you Dorka Cobián Rojas

Scientists recently circumnavigated Cuba over 53 days and 1,960 nautical miles to examine ocean species and coral reefs as a first step toward designing comprehensive marine management and conservation programs for the island nation. The idea for El Bojeo, which means the circumnavigation in Spanish...

IN SUPPORT OF EACH OTHER

There is something special about the exchange of gratitude between this lovely group of hearts. Blurred lines of country and borders…seem to fade away during 12 days of adventure and balance of the environment. We shared respect, awe and friendship between two countries that are supposed to be foes. We are not our governments but we advocate for a better dream and a future. As Americans, we aren’t allowed to travel to Cuba freely. We traveled in Support of the Cuban People. But the reality is our trip became in support of each other. We felt authentic support from our Cuban friends who inspire and teach us everyday what it means to live and appreciate life despite the problems we each navigate. There are no words for the obstacles we face and the grace and perseverance we feel when we achieve together. We remain eternally in support of each other and continue to honor our Cuban friends who grow as extended family to us more with each visit.

Lizt Alfonso was born in Cuba and has been dancing since age four. 💃 She was so obsessed with dancing that her family worried about her and took her to a psychiatrist. Many who knew her thought she was “loca” because all she could think about was to become a professional dancer and open her own school. By 1991 she started her own dance company fusing classical ballet with Spanish flamenco and Afro Cuban dance. She creates something completely unique to give to the world- bridging all these flavors & styles in one show. She built a team of choreographers who’ve been with her for 30 years. She’s taught many first prima ballet dancers of the national team. Some of her dancers have been featured in famous music videos like Enrique Iglesias “Bailando”.

Besides the fame…. The heart of her dream is how they take children from age 5 and up through their 20’s to teach them all the knowledge for these complicated styles of dance and discipline - to become professional dancers and choreographers in their own right.

The school is completely self funded. No one is turned away for the inability to pay. Her dance company has traveled all over the world performing in sold-out shows, earning international awards from many countries… including the top award from First Lady Michelle Obama for the best after school program.

Two weeks ago her company won an award from the King of Spain.

But apart from the recognition…she had a dream from her childhood to create an opportunity for children to have training she never had available to her as a child. Now… no one calls her crazy…. Now they can enjoy her dream as a reality (if you’re so lucky to get tickets!). Or be so fortunate to receive a private elegant performance by the Malecon sea front for our group. It moved us to tears.

Lizt said in Cuba we always have to fight for our dreams. But with a good team and hard work and determination… you can make the dream come true. And so it is in life… that Cuba teaches us the Art of the Possible.
