Shaiq Network is a corporation that was established in 1996, working in the fields of health, engineering, education, film production and media in the Eastern Region of Afghanistan. Since its inception, the organization established a medical laboratory, a teacher training center in Laghman, a school in Shen Korak District of Kunar, and a media center in Jalalabad.
In 2003, Internews helped establish Sharq Radio which is on air to this date and covers the eastern zone of afghanistan with the highest rate of listeners and the most trusted private station in the region. In 2005, the organization began a cable TV network in Section 2 of Jalalabad and produced Black Poison, a movie about terrorism and drug addiction that was distributed free of cost to 20,000 families in the Region.
in 2005, the PRT assisted Shaiq Network to organize a cricket tournament for 22 Nangarhar districts and in 2006, a 10km marathon race from Surkhod to Jalalabad.
In 2007, Shaiq Network consolidated its broadcasts under one roof – Nargis, a station devoted to women’s issues. Established on 11th September 2007, Nargis Radio is a Radio station run by women for women. It is aimed at production and broadcasting of programs mainly focused at social life of women in Afghan society; the radio promotes awareness about the role of women in the community development. Nargis FM is the only radio station operated by women journalists for women. It is focused at educating women, to empower them and enable them overcome their social problems. It operates on a 600W Transmitter with5000 WT DePaul Antenna installed on 85 meters tall tower; is accessible on 92.4 MHZ locally, and through internet live streaming
