IMPORTANT UPDATE: I-10 ALERT: Effective 2 p.m. EST (Jan 23), a portion of WESTBOUND Interstate 10 (I-10) will reopen to traffic from Mile Marker 70 (State Road 285) to the Alabama/Florida State Line (shown in green on the map).

To reiterate, this is for westbound only. Additional sections of I-10 are anticipated to open later today. In the meantime, for the sections of I-10 still closed, please seek alternative routes until further notice.

As our crews continue to work around the clock, FDOT reminds travelers to drive with caution as winter weather and icy conditions are still present and while we work with law enforcement to re-open the entire corridor.

BOB SIKES ROAD SHUT DOWN FROM STATE ROAD 285 TO S 19TH STREET IN DEFUNIAK SPRINGS

In conjunction with Eglin Air Force Base, Walton County Sheriff's Office has shut down Bob Sikes Road from State Highway 285 to S 19th Street in DeFuniak Springs.

This decision was made after responding to numerous disabled vehicles. Bob Sikes Road remains extremely icy causing dangerous and hazardous conditions for drivers. Please avoid the area.

FDOT crews are working diligently this morning in NW Florida to remove remaining ice and snow from I-10 in order to get the interstate open as quickly as possible. I-10 remains closed in both directions from the Alabama/Florida State Line to Exit 192 (U.S. 90) in Gadsden County.

Santa Rosa County Public Works crews are currently evaluating major county roadways. Travelers are asked to avoid the following county roadways due to extremely icy conditions:

- Munson Highway from Highway 4 north to the Alabama line

- Quintette Road from Alderbrook Boulevard (Ashley Plantation Subdivision) north to the Escambia County Line

As temperatures rise and ice loosens, crews will grate icy areas to improve roadway safety.

Any open roadways should be traveled with extreme caution due to icy conditions.

⚫️ I-10 is still closed and U.S. Highway 90 has major traffic delays and congestions. A traffic accident involving a semi-truck near the Shoal River this morning is complicating the movement of vehicles. Avoid this area. Okaloosa County Public Works is assisting movement on US 90 with ice breakers.

⚫️ Avoid Airport Road near Dogwood near the curve due to ice.

⚫️ Bridges are still iced over. PLEASE do not drive if you do not need to.

⛔ Impassible roads:
*Encourage to avoid

- Stillwell Blvd between Valley Rd. and Brackin St remains impassable and closed

Thursday, Jan. 23, 9:30 a.m.

The Yellow River Bridge on Hwy. 87 South has reopened ONE LANE for traffic. Follow instructions for alternating traffic flow. Use extreme caution when approaching the area. Seeking an alternate route is encouraged.

The Chappie James 3-Mile Bridge (Pensacola Bay Bridge) has reopened. Use extreme caution as conditions are still hazardous. Only travel if necessary.

Per the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office FL, Highway 90 from Canal Street to the Okaloosa County line has reopened.

Motorists should still use extreme caution if they must travel this morning.

🚨❄️Jan. 23 Eglin AFB Weather Update❄️🚨

Base operations and services will remain closed through Thursday Jan. 23 after a record snowfall in the region late yesterday.

The Eglin Installation Commander extended his order for essential mission activities on Eglin. Operations and services except for base emergency services will be closed all of Thursday, Jan. 23. Maximum telework remains highly encouraged.

As an exception, the Eglin commissary will open tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. to allow base residents and Eglin personnel who live just outside the gates access to groceries.

It is still highly encouraged for people to stay off the roadways as much as possible and not travel to Eglin unless absolutely necessary.

Roads in and around the area remain a major concern as a refreeze is expected just before sunset tonight.

A decision on the installation’s posture for Friday, Jan. 24 will be made tomorrow afternoon based on the projected condition of roads in and around the area.

OVERVIEW/WHAT'S NEW: We have issued another Extreme Cold Warning which is in effect from 9 pm this evening until 9 am Thursday morning. Lots of snow and ice are on the roadways, and some melting which occurs today will result in sheets of ice tonight into Thursday morning. Don’t be lulled into a sense of security in seeing the sun doing its job and thinking the roads will be clear when the snow melts. It will re-freeze tonight. Be careful. If you don’t have to be on the road, don’t.

WHAT: Extreme Cold Warning for apparent temperature values down to around 10.
WHEN: From 9 pm this evening through 9 am Thursday morning.
WHERE: The entire area.
