Meant to post this yesterday. Jr. discharged from inpatient care yesterday. He and I moved into our home for the next foreseeable future into medical barracks on Fort Sam Houston. We got settled in and are figuring out how we are going to operate as a team. I will be round the clock care giver and responsible for him to make all of his appointments with medical and the Navy. So, needless to say, our lives are going to be busy. However the rest of this week we are just going to take it easy and settle in. Thank you guys for the support. First time out of the hospital!!! Today Jr got permission from his doctor to take a short trip outside of the hospital. Today we are going to where I’m staying, and I’m making some dinner for him. The “life of the party” has been in this week!! JR has been entertaining us with his crazy stories and goofy personality. I think he finally remembered how much he loves to make people laugh.
It’s been really nice to see him in such good spirits. He’s playing games with us & talking a LOT. It doesn’t always make sense, but he’s got some stories to tell. 😆
🙏🏼 THANK YOU to everyone who has sent items our way. It really means a lot. Every little thing has been helpful, and we are blessed to have so many people cheering him on. He’s loved the video messages he’s received….so keep those coming. He’s always talking about hanging out with friends. He misses all of his buddies.
Nick 6/18/24
Lena and the kids came in the other day to stay for awhile with me in San Antonio. We went to see Jr and it was like magic! It was as if seeing Lena, Armani, and especially his little brother Kai lit up the entire room for him. He was telling stories, laughing, and smiling! I haven’t heard Nick laugh or seen him smile since before his accident. 🥹 It was amazing!
I’d like to ask all of Nick’s friends a favor. I’ve asked him if he was interested in FaceTiming or talking to friends, and he said he wasn’t. However I would like to try showing him videos of you guys talking to him. Maybe just some simple messages of encouragement or that you’re thinking about him. I think that it might be good for him to see some more familiar faces. #tuttlestrong

A few of you guys have sent us some pictures and video of Nick just being himself. If you know Jr at all, then you know he loved to make people laugh with his complete ridiculousness. 😆 I can’t count the number of times Lena and I have shaken our heads or laughed hysterically on FaceTime with him. Also if you know Nick, then you know he could absolutely fall asleep anywhere in 3 seconds. I have so many pictures of him asleep in the car. Anytime we went anywhere at all, he would rack out immediately. I can’t wait to have him send me ridiculous videos and fall asleep in the car again 🥲.

Just a follow up post sharing information about how to help support Nick if you would like to. We’ve already had a lot of you guys contribute. Thank you! It’s been so incredible to see the outpouring of support for us and our son. It’s good to know we’ve got people in our corner. 🙏🏼 ♥️
Ok, a lot of people have asked us how to help/ what JR may need. We are to the point now that we are getting some things for him and will be on the regular. Food, drinks, clothing/shoes, entertainment, etc...
The short story is, e-gift cards are probably the easiest right now. Walmart, Amazon, Target, Chipotle, 😆... We did start an Amazon list with ideas and will add to it over time. Email address and Amazon link will be at the bottom of this post & in our bio. If you personally know JR, feel free to send him whatever you think he would enjoy. Just understand he has a lot of limitations right now.
The details...
He currently does not have any of his belongings here, and we dont have an ETA right now. This includes his phone.
That being said, the following is what we are looking at, currently.
-Food/ drinks. We are slowly reintroducing foods. He is REALLY loving fresh berries & smoothies. Tea, green tea, gatorade... he didn't get to drink anything for a month and a half. He is making up for it now!! Grocery gift cards will go a long way. We really try to avoid fast food, but the kid sure does love Chipotle. 😂
-Clothing/Shoes. We have bought him a hat and a few shirts. We want him to feel some sort of normalcy. Right now, he can't wear things as he normally would. His shirts have to be loose and we have to cut them up the back to be gown like. Eventually, he will transition into normal clothes, but will be in different sizing (due to weight loss).
-Entertainment. JR reallllly wants his phone back. Currently, he watches movies on Nick's iPad. He also draws a little & scrolls the gram. He will have more access as he progresses. Some apps/ games will be good for his brain. So Apple GCs would be useful for that. We haven't decided for sure, but we may go ahead and get him a new phone or iPad, depending on how the timeline of his belongings pans out. It may be best to get a new one, regardless, due to our *interesting* family dynamic.
