The Media Communication Program & Speech Gen Ed employs 15 adjuncts and FT faculty. In addition, there are over 90 majors within the department as well over 1,400 general education students in Speech (SPCH 1203) each year. We teach, regionally, the public speaking course to high school students. We also teach the public speaking course to students at Sichuan Vocational & Technical College of Comm
unications (SVTCC) in China. Students in the Media Communication major have won several regional awards the southcentral broadcasting society as well as presenting at the Southern States Communication Association. The student organizations are NuMedia, with access to audio and video equipment, as well as the Lions’ Chronicle, a digital student newspaper. This year’s Lucille Speakman Master Teacher award recipient is part of the MCOM faculty! Students have opportunities for internships and have placed in television affiliates in Dallas and Chicago. The emphasis in Media Communication is broad and widely applicable, including focus on production and editing skills, media literacy, journalism, and new media and social media. The UAFS Media Comm major works to teach students the many different aspects of electronic media. From shooting Reporter Packages to Public Service Announcements, and LIVE Broadcasts this organization is sure to reach everyone in the Media Comm department and hook members up with the latest and greatest technology and skills necessary to advance their careers in electronic media.
