Happy Den Day to future University of Arkansas - Fort Smith students!

Today, UAFS will welcome newly admitted students to campus for a full day of activities designed to introduce them to university life. Nearly 400 students registered for the event, with close to 900 guests - the largest Accepted Students Day event ever!

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with check-in and a resource fair, followed by breakout sessions, a mock classroom experience, and lunch. Current students, faculty, and staff will be available to answer new student questions throughout the day. Parents will also have a dedicated track to learn how to support their students’ transition to college, with sessions in both English and Spanish.

At 1:30 p.m., the UAFS Majors expo, open to current students and new students alike, will take place in the Recreation and Wellness Center, offering a chance to explore major options and talk with faculty.

The day will conclude with campus and housing tours, as well as an opportunity to attend a UAFS baseball game. The event is designed to help new students familiarize themselves with campus resources and build connections before their first semester.

A CLOSER LOOK WITH DR. PASSMORE:
Best Advice Ever Received
Always read, and always challenge yourself.

Sunday Routine
Every day starts and ends with caring for the horses, and Sundays are no exception. In between, I make time for reflection, church, family, and the gym. Farm and fence maintenance are also part of the day—there’s always something that needs tending.

Hobbies
I own Belgian draft horses and love riding and caring for them. They’re retired from showing with fancy carts and wagons, much like the Clydesdales you see on TV. Fitness is also a priority for my mental health, and I make time for it regularly. I typically go snow skiing at least twice a year and water skiing in the summer.

Favorite Food/Local Dish
This is a tough one since I love cooking in my chef’s kitchen. When dining out, I enjoy 21 West End, Taliano’s, Piatto, and Stonehouse. But at the top of my list? A lobster roll in Boston—nothing else quite compares.

A CLOSER LOOK WITH DONNA MORGAN:
Best Advice Ever Received
"The best advice I’ve ever received is, 'You can't care for others if you don't take care of yourself.'" This simple yet powerful reminder has taught me the importance of prioritizing my well-being so I can fully show up for the people who rely on me. It’s a lesson I’ve carried into both my personal life and professional practice, recognizing that self-care is the foundation for effectively supporting those around me.

Sunday Routine
My Sundays typically start with the 9:00 a.m. service at Central Christian Church. I prefer the early service so I can focus on what I want or need to do for the rest of the day. If I didn’t finish my household chores on Saturday, I wrap them up on Sunday. After that, I spend time with my family—usually just my husband, since three of our children are grown and our youngest, at 16, often prefers hanging out with friends. My husband and I might watch a movie, or I’ll take some time to embroider, bake, or read. I always make it a point to unwind and recharge before the new week begins—I know I can’t start Monday feeling drained.

Hobbies
I love all things DIY and crafts. My husband and I always seem to have a remodeling project in progress. I also enjoy cross-stitching, embroidery, baking, gardening, canning vegetables and jellies, and, of course, reading.

Favorite Food/Local Dish
Piatto’s meatballs and focaccia bread—absolute favorites!
