Earlier this summer, our family had the opportunity to lead a group of discipleship students on a quick trip down to Mazatlan, Mexico, to minister to the local surf and skate communities. Typically, whenever we set out on mission trips, we hope to reach, serve, and inspire the local communities we visit to the best of our abilities. Praise the Lord; we had the opportunity to witness all of that unfold in just a few short days. This trip to Mazatlan was unique as it brought our current discipleship students overseas to apply the tools and training they learned during their time in the program. The impact of their training was evident as they grew in confidence in their testimonies and their giftings to evangelize, teach skating and surfing, and build community in real-time. It truly was a radical and beautiful experience!

Episode 13 is here, and we are so incredibly stoked to introduce to you our long-time friend and dear brother, Lane Terzieff ()! Lane is a true revolutionary: the kind who believes that through the white noise of a chaotic modern world, God has called his followers into Activism and Adventure. “Being a Christian is the least boring thing on the planet,” Lane says frankly. “And maybe sometimes going into the mission field may have to look more like an action movie.”

….This speaker, missionary, and artist is no stranger to action. The son of a cowboy and a hippie, Lane Terzieff left his native Wyoming as a teenager, embarking on a journey to learn everything he could about music, film, business, public service, and what it looks like to be a faith-full human. That journey has led him through over 30 countries, using everything from bringing skateboards into North Korea to sneaking onto the red carpet to talk about his faith with people like Kanye West and Katy Perry. There’s nothing Lane won’t try when it comes to creating new ways to reach kids with hope, whether it includes stunts (he was a stuntman on Sharknado 3 and Z Nation), action sports, or wild genre-bending dance music. Lane has served refugees in Ukraine, Syria, Myanmar, Ethiopia and beyond.

“Whether it’s in your neighborhood or across the world, do something crazy like the people of the Bible did. Get fed up enough with the state of the world around you that you go out with love and change it.”

In honor of , we wanted to highlight a story from Volume IV of The Pursuit Collective Journal titled “Skating for Redemption.” Last year, we sent a team led by Jesus Martinez ( ) down to Havana, Cuba, to begin pouring into and cultivating relationships with local skate community. What started as a single trip has since blossomed into many subsequent trips, and those who were once “strangers” are now brothers and sisters in Christ! We are so humbled by trips like these and the eternal foundations being laid because of them. Even after countless trips across the globe, it never ceases to amaze us how powerful a little piece of wood and some wheels paired with an intentional heart filled with the Holy Spirit can be.

“The legacy being written is not just about skateboarding; it’s a testament to the resilience of the human soul and the power of faith to transform lives. Through skateboarding and the Gospel, they are not only navigating the streets of Havana but also paving a way towards eternity for themselves and those around them.”

We’re reminiscing over some monochromatic memories from our time in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, this past August for the ACTS European Gathering. We’re so stoked about what the Lord is doing in Sarajevo and are truly honored to have brothers and sisters in the faith all across the globe faithfully planting seeds that we pray will bear fruit for many generations to come!

It blows our mind when we reflect on the fact that within the first three months of 2024, the Lord has paved the way, and provided the means for us to equip and send teams to serve alongside ministries in Puerto Rico, Türkiye, Canada, Nicaragua, Japan, Peru, Philippines, Brazil, and Mexico! It’s with a grateful heart that we share our next “Through The Lens” recap from our most recent trip down to Peru.

“Together, with their servant hearts and unending love for the Lord, they have proven to make an incredible team of leaders. Especially for a trip like the one we were soon to embark on.
Our team consisted of people from all over the Americas (Florida, Costa Rica, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Colombia, Texas, and Michigan), and it was through our diversity that God graced us with unity, cooperation, and friendship. Our first day was spent meeting and reuniting with , his family (who has grown one member bigger since our last visit), and some of the staff from . That Sunday, Carlitos walked into church with a trail of wide-eyed gringos behind him. Fortunately for us, even though most of our team didn’t speak Spanish and couldn’t understand the words in the worship songs or the sermon, our God doesn’t need language to make His presence known or for us to respond in praise. Sometimes, we stumbled over the lyrics on the screen, but mostly, we just closed our eyes and lifted our hands, and this was the posture that would remain amongst our group for the rest of the week!“

We’re back! As we’re sure you’ve noticed, we took a little bit of a hiatus in 2023, but we couldn’t be more stoked to be here and back at it in 2024! There has been so much going on, including the release of Volume IV of The Pursuit Collective Journal. The Lord is undeniably moving through so many people all across the globe; we look forward to sitting down throughout the year to highlight some of these truly rad individuals and the work being done in and through their lives.

With that being said, our guest for episode 12 is one of these rad individuals. A dear, dear friend and brother of ours, not to mention one of the godfathers of BMX, ! In fact, to further the point, we’re quite confident in saying there isn’t a major BMX publication that hasn’t featured Vic at one point or another over the past two decades of his career. But Vic is more than just a godfather to BMX. As you’ll quickly find out, Vic’s love for life and sharing the name of Jesus is undeniable.

At 22, Vic committed his life to Christ after an attempt to prove to his friends that God didn’t exist. The result of such was quite the opposite. Vic has since gone on to utilize his love for Action Sports and influence within the culture as a unique opportunity to share the name of Christ with people all across the world. Whether it’s demos at a school, a prison in a foreign country, or the streets of Trenchtown, Jamaica, Vic and his crew from , his non-profit ministry, are out on the road, impacting the world by preaching the Good News of the Gospel to the ends of the earth!

We’re stoked to share a bit more of a look into the second story in Volume IV of The Pursuit Collective Journal, titled, “Belonging Before Believing.”

“There is a famous Japanese proverb that says, “The nail that sticks out will be hammered down” - Deru kui wa utareru (出る杭は打たれる). You will often hear this proverb being used to express how difficult it is to be different in Japan and that any detour from the norm will be met with resistance and even persecution. In the past, not many things have stuck out more within Japanese society than an action sports athlete. However, that tide is changing, and the Japanese are embracing action sports more than ever due to their world domination in skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding at Olympic levels. This newfound cultural embrace has proved to be the catalyst that would open the door for us to travel to Japan to serve, encourage, and love on skaters, surfers, skiers, and snowboarders alike.

When presenting the Gospel in honor-shame cultures, a believer’s relational bridge with unbelievers must be honor. This way, engaging people aligns with the message we proclaim of God’s unconditional and sacrificial love in word and deed. It is our prayer that through relationships like that of Minori and others using action sports to reach the Japanese, we can invest time, energy, and focus in makin God known among the beautiful, rad, and talented people of Japan while simultaneously equipping them with how to do that within their communities best.”

“There is undoubtedly something very special about gathering with like-minded leaders to fellowship, worship, and encourage one another. This very thing is the mission of the ACTS Network. Founded in 2014, ACTS is an action sports ministry network that provides opportunities to gather leaders, validate their callings, grow one another, and share resources. Since nearly the inception of this group, we have been honored to serve both as advocates for this vision and as volunteer leaders to help cultivate and facilitate opportunities for regional and global gatherings to take place. Every other year, there are regional gatherings, and during the off years, there is a global summit where leaders from around the world travel to learn from one another and spur each other on to continue fighting the good fight. For the 2024 Global Summit, we strategically chose Yokohama, Japan, as the location.”

The harvest is so, so plentiful, but the workers are few. Currently, there are less than a dozen action sports ministry leaders in Japan. Please join us in praying for more leaders to be called, trained, and sent to Japan.

We’re stoked to share a glimpse into the second story in Volume IV titled “Belonging Before Believing” written by ‘s Director of Discipleship, Julio Marin.

This story is so cool for a variety of reasons and a true testament to the ways in which God uses our past trials to grow, shape, and equip us for the callings of our tomorrows. Julio touches on his struggles with isolation as a child, how the Lord broke his heart for the Japanese people, and the vital importance of understanding cultural context when it comes to sharing the Gospel with unreached people groups.

“We recently traveled to our Latin American Headquarters in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua, to build a concrete mini ramp on our property to provide additional means of engaging and interacting with the local youth and the greater community as a whole. We count it a blessing each time we have the opportunity to reunite with our Nicaruagian ohana, and this trip was no different. Our crew arrived curious and excited to see how this project would come to fruition.”

The Lords favor was evident in every aspect of this endeavor, and we are so grateful to have reunited with our brothers and sisters in Nica once again. Please join us in praying for the citizens of Nicaragua and, even more specifically, the people of San Juan del Sur. Our prayers is that this feature will provide a space to bring community together, that it will be a place where people hear the name of Jesus for the first time, and that it will be a ramp where lives are transformed into new creations for many years to come!

One of the things we love so much about the heart behind the first story in Volume IV titled “The Eternal Wave” is just that… the heart! There are countless reasons why our time in Lima last spring was so impactful, but one that truly stands out was the intentionality to peel back our hearts and lean into what it means to truly live in community and brotherhood. In doing so, we awaken to how it can transform our lives and free us to serve better and love deeper those whom God calls us to.

“For us, this began at 5:00am on the first morning with our “Onion Peel Backs” as they would soon be dubbed. No, this wasn’t nine guys in the kitchen literally cutting through onions; this was nine guys sitting nervously together with sleep still in their eyes alongside a man they didn’t yet know as he asked them hard questions with the intent to peel back their hearts as a chef with an onion. As you’ve probably experienced, peeling an onion is easy with the first paper-like layer, but as you peel layer by layer, it starts to resist and actually sting. There is an aroma that grows in strength and a mist that can burn, but there is also a savory flavor that can only be found in the midst of that onion, well below the surface.”

“David and Monica moved with their family from the United States to Türkiye in 2012 with the call to establish a church that worships Jesus, loves its community, and lays a foundation for elders to rise up and lead the church long after their time comes. God has since grown that seed planted nearly twelve years ago in Fethiye, Türkiye, into a vibrant, multi-generational, multi-national community presence! By His grace, they’ve been able to not only purchase a home for the church (Fethiye Halk Killisesi) to meet publicly but also to transform their downstairs space into a fully functioning coffee shop (FHK Coffee) where all profits are donated to helping those in need locally. Aside from helping the underprivileged in Fethiye, FHK coffee also provides a safe space for natural conversations about faith, life, and Jesus to sprout. The prayer is that out of these conversations, genuine, long-lasting relationships will begin to take form and flourish - resulting in a deep-rooted community of faithful believers eager and willing to serve their country through the teachings of Christ.”

The opening story in Vol. IV titled “The Eternal Wave” is a peek into the spirit and life of a trip down to Peru, in March of 2023 - and one that is, in many was, only just beginning.

“This past spring, nine of us set out on a trip to Lima, Peru, to link arms with our friend Carlos Cabinates of Eternal Wave Surf School. As owner of Eternal Wave, Carlos has set his sights on utilizing every available resource to share the love of Jesus with those around him. The heart behind our journey was to help lead surf and skate outreach events built upon the intentional expression of the Gospel so that Carlos could witness how naturally it can be shared. In the weeks prior, as we sat around our meeting rooms and held Zoom calls to coordinate the trip, we did not recognize at the time how impactful the experience of serving others through the peeling back of our hearts would prove to be.”

It doesn’t take much time spent with and the family to recognize that the Lord is moving within them and preparing them to do just that!

Well, it’s that time of year again, and we couldn’t be more stoked to announce that Volume IV of The Pursuit Collective Journal has arrived fresh off the press! We are incredibly grateful for everyone who contributed to bringing this project to fruition and can not wait to share the stories held within its pages with the world.

The inspiration behind this years journal was the impact of Jesus’ message of His Upside-Down Kingdom and those early believers who fearlessly traveled to the ENDS of the earth, turning the world on its head with the good and controversial news of a risen Messiah.

Until then, we’ll leave you with a snippet from this years opening letter from the editor, “An Upside-Down Kingdom.”

“Encompassed with the ensuing pages are such stories. Stories of faith, life, redemption, and grace. Stories of individuals willing to leave the ninety-nine to save the one, to be mocked or imprisoned, all for the love of the lost and downtrodden. When the opportunity arose for us to assemble a small group of surfers to return to Rincon, Puerto Rico, for the second year in a row, we wasted very little time responding with a resounding “yes!”.

Monthy (pronounced ‘Monty’) and Santiago had asked us to assist with the 10th Annual Surf Legends Classic, a contest geared toward honoring the “older” surfers within the Puerto Rican surf community. Much like last year, their greatest need for assistance was the contest’s set up, judging, and tear-down.

From day one, getting to know Monthy and Santiago has been a pleasure. Their character and testimonies speak volumes of the Lord’s work in their lives and their hunger to serve Him in whatever capacity they can. The Surf Legends Classic originated when Monthy saw a need for a contest dedicated to surfers over 35 years old. Historically, he couldn’t understand why there was nothing of the sort in the Rincon area. In response to such a perceived need, Monthy set out to create just that, and by God’s grace alone, they are still going strong ten years later!

Birthed from a Ride Nature mission to Costa Rica this past March, we are stoked to share a new blog post, “Planting Seeds.”

“The teacher of the Blossoms’ classroom, whom I served under, is a beautiful, servant hearted, faith-filled seed planter named Ms. Valentina. Watching her be so patient, kind, and nurturing to each of the kids reminded me of the people who have done the same in my own life and how much of an impact that Christ-like servant hood has had on my faith and the person I am today.”

The ninth and final story in Vol. III highlights our brother and Ride Nature California Executive Director, Jake Kinney. This story is a rad look back into Jake's childhood, his passion for the multiple different facets of action sports, and the ways in which the Lord has shaped and prepared him for this new chapter he and his family are faithfully stepping into.

" In transitioning from competing and riding full-time as a pro to working for Woodward, I began implementing the life lessons I had learned from my dad in the surf shop. I shared my faith, loved on the other staff, and strived to treat others like I had watched my dad growing up. The more bold I grew in my faith, the more I felt the weight of my identity as just a bike rider begin to fade. Like the early days of progression within riding, I knew God was shaping and molding me into the man He had created me to be. "

The eighth story in Vol. III takes place in Barcelona, Spain, and highlights our brother 's creative process, passion for analog photography, and heart for skate ministry. If you haven't seen episode 14 "Spain," of the series, make sure to go check it out for a cinematic look into all the Lord is doing through Dave's life and ministry in Barcelona.

"Stepping into a darkroom is like entering an inspiring new world. The pungent smell of chemicals, old analog lab equipment, and hopefully some nice tunes played in the background all make for a uniquely rad environment and experience. Welcoming someone new into this space definitely requires patience and precision. Preparing and loading your first roll of film into a light-safe tank can be nerve-wracking. Next comes passing your roll through multiple chemicals for a controlled amount of time at a specific temperature; finally, the magic moment of opening up the tank to view your precious negatives, fulfilling the anticipation of waiting days or even weeks to see what you had captured. Going through this process never gets old; there is something incredibly therapeutic about the analog process that has so many mysterious factors. Witnessing the excitement new photographers have after a workshop and their eagerness to go out into the world to shoot more film and continue developing as an artist is what I consider the 'precious gold' within the mining process. Few things are as dear to me as spending quality time in the lab and out on the streets with other aspiring photographers."

The son of a cowboy and a hippie, Lane Terzieff left his native Wyoming as a teenager, embarking on a journey to learn everything he could about music, film, business, public service, and what it looks like to be a faith-full human. That journey has led him through over 30 countries, using everything from bringing skateboards into North Korea to sneaking onto the red carpet to talk about his faith with people like Kanye West and Katy Perry. There’s nothing Lane won’t try when it comes to creating new ways to reach kids with hope, whether it includes stunts (he was a stuntman on Sharknado 3 and Z Nation), action sports, or wild genre-bending dance music. Lane has served refugees in Ukraine, Syria, Myanmar, Ethiopia and beyond. “Whether it’s in your neighborhood or across the world, do something crazy like the people of the Bible did. Earlier this year, the Lord paved the way for us to reunite with our dear friend and brother in Christ, Josh Nerez ( @jshnrz ), in Japan for the ACTS Network Gathering. But our time together didn’t stop there; after the gathering came to a close, we were able to join Josh on a flight back to his home country of the Philipines to encourage, worship, and serve alongside him and the ministry he has been spearheading for the past several years. The Philippines has held a special place in our hearts since we first visited. The people. The landscape. The eagerness of the believers to be trained, equipped, and mobilized.
