Some of you are non Union, some are SAG Eligible and some are members. This strike could effect all of you. This is how. Those who are non Union or SAG E, should you continue to self tape, audition or film, you could be denied future membership in SAG. Why would that matter to you? Some of you have hopes to move to a major market like LA. If you are working your way up the ladder with major aspirations, you need to be very careful to not cross the picket lines right now. You can not assume SAG will never find out. You can not assume they will take it lightly. Don’t screw up your future endeavors for the sake of something small such as one line on your resume.
Those of you who are already SAG, there are things you can and can not do. So check your calendar and make sure you’re not crossing the picket lines with anything you had upcoming.
I know this feels like punishment. It’s not. It’s for the future sake of every actor and performer. Negotiations need to be made. With streaming services and the use of AI more and more, actors need to be protected. Past practices and guidelines didn’t address these issue as they didn’t exist. Now that the landscape has changed, safeguards need to be in place. When the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) refused to negotiate on these and other key issues, the strike became a necessary evil in the eyes of the SAG board members. They are standing up for you and all actors worldwide as they did when SAG was founded. It is my strong advice to stand with them. The stronger their voice, the sooner negotiations can take place. They need the power of collective unity to create much needed change for the betterment of our professions. The major production studios that are part of the Alliance include major studios and streamers, Amazon, Apple, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros Discovery. They have refused to negotiate. To continue on your path without adhering to the strike would be putting more power in the studios’ hands rather than the hands of SAG and your fellow actors who united for the common good.
The choice is yours to make, ultimately. Gray Models and Talent will continue to book and promote all aspects of advertising and fashion bookings. However, we will not be sending out any submission notices or posts for anything that would cross the picket line. We stand with SAG.
