I have seen this city and it many changes. There are some very big changes coming to all of Florida. A rethinking of how we get from place to place within our city. Fort Lauderdale will soon see construction of a new Intermodal Center (IMC) in downtown. IMC will connect traveler's to buses, The Wave Streetcar and All Aboard Florida passenger rail as well as Tri-Rail Coastal Link. The city has intr

oduced Transit Oriented Development guideline's to help guide growth in it's core. The Art's and Entertainment district in Downtown connected by Riverwalk park is also growing at a rapid pace. This page is a platform for us all to connect and share ideas about our great city's direction.

Patio Bar & Pizza / 901 Progresso Drive, #114 / Progresso Village

Flagler Village Civic Association / Social Mixer and Membership Meeting from September 20, 2023.

My favorite building in Fort Lauderdale sits at the intersection of NE 3rd Avenue and Progresso Drive. Home to Laser Wolf Bar, Sidewalk Bottle Shop ,
Sarah Glass Ceramics, Good Luck Cat Cafe and a few others.

Built in 1925 this building has seen Fort Lauderdale change. For many years it was a makeshift train stop and marketplace. Our city's First Branch Post Office was located here. In 1949 the city condemned the building because it lacked attention. A Broward Real Estate Agent by the name of H.S. Ratliff purchased the property and converted it into an artist's village. In 1986 Progresso Plaza received a Community Appearance Award from the City of Fort Lauderdale .

Fast forward to 2023 and the Progresso Building is flourishing. If you want a trip back in time with a modern touch please Progresso Plaza soon. Tell them URBNPLANR sent you!

I want to take a moment to say thank you to Dylan Lagi , Jay Adams, Wood and the entire Patio Bar & Pizza staff for making our event a smashing success!

Also special thanks Fort Lauderdale City Police Department and to our FVCA membership and FVCA Board.

If you would be interested and being a part of the Flagler Village Civic Association please DM me here.

Regards,
Shawn

URBNPLANR Update / Flagler Village Brewerie's / Invasive Species Brewing

Popped into Invasive Species Brewing today for a meeting today. Ts probably been about 3 years since I was last here. This place has really taken root and is embedded in our neighborhood's rich history.

Located at 726 NE 2nd Avenue right next door to Flagler Uptown home to local favorite Wells Coffee Company . You really can't miss this place. The bright yellow mid century storefront has an alluring intrigue combined with their unique Invasive Species branding. I was allured by it's visual vibe from the funky stickers on the bike racks and inspired by their asphalt takeover turned "Park-let" . Indoor / Outdoor this place has it all. Tonight's food truck offering was Tight Lines Food Shack.

Inside the brewery has some real character. First impressions are so important. What I saw upon entering inspired me to pull out my camera and share what I dug about this place. It reminded me of my early days with URBNPLANR when I wasn't as concerned about green space and affordability. I just enjoy connecting the dots with the lots and keeping you all informed cause that is the true essence of me. A spark goes off and my goodwill for the community takes over.

Now where did I leave off? Oh yeah the story unravels as you look around this space. The bartenders tonight were Kate and Jessie. A bell got rung by Kate but I forgot to ask her why. Come check this place out. Tell them URBNPLANR sent you. Support Local.

Finally some activity around our disconnected Fort Lauderdale Brightline Station. The new design features ground floor activations featuring commercial and restaurant space. A new pedestrian covered walkway would connect the new tower and existing parking facility to Brightline.

This TOD appears to be part of a much bigger plan for the westside of the tracks near Broward Boulevard. A reimagining of this area is desperately needed. A few high rises are planned just south of Broward Boulevard in the Himmarshee District. I do not foresee any affordable or even workforce housing coming as a part of this project.
