Arena Di Verona. Stiffelio. 03 November 2024. Verona's Philharmonic Theatre will host Giuseppe Verdi's rarely produced operatic masterwork Stiffelio which is known for exploring issues of faith, infidelity, and redemption.

When originally published the opera was deemed scandalous and censored due to the main character being a pastor who is dealing with his wife’s betrayal and the bounds of forgiveness.

This Verdi’s piece captivates spectators with its melodic complexity and emotional intensity, providing a singularly introspective glimpse into the Italian maestro's creativity. An essential experience for opera aficionados.

Conductor-Leonardo Sini
Director-Guy Montavon
Stiffelio-Stefano Secco

Wiener Staatsoper. György Kurtág's opera Fin de Partie. On October 16 the audience of the opera house in Vienna had a unique chance to experience György Kurtág's opera Fin de Partie, which is based on Samuel Beckett's Endgame. This unusual piece delves into such issues as human isolation, mortality, and the end of life. Kurtág's minimalist score enhances Beckett's philosophical setting, providing an emotional study of existence.
Kurtág's sole opera, Fin de Partie, debuted in 2018 as an introduction to a powerful fusion of theater and music.

OTELLO in PRAGUE. Verdi’s “Otello” is one of the most captivating operas ever composed. Based on Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy and brought to life by Arrigo Boito’s exceptional libretto, this opera explores the depths of human emotion in a tale of love, jealousy, and betrayal.
The story begins with a dramatic storm scene, as Otello, the victorious commander of the Venetian fleet, returns to Cyprus after defeating the Ottoman forces. But beneath his triumph lies the seed of tragedy. Manipulated by the scheming Iago, Otello's mind is consumed by jealousy, leading him down a path of destruction. Verdi’s masterful score intensifies the emotional turmoil, sweeping the audience into the heart of the drama.
Otello, which premiered in 1887 at La Scala in Milan, was a huge success, immediately becoming a world’s favorite. It premiered at Prague's National Theatre in 1888, just a year after its debut. More than a century later, this masterwork returns to the State Opera in a breathtaking new staging by acclaimed director Martin Čičvák, recognized for his daring and original interpretation of the operatic repertory.
This production brings together some of the most celebrated ensembles: the State Opera Chorus, the State Opera Orchestra, the National Theatre Opera Ballet, and the Prague Philharmonic Children's Choir. Together, they will create an unforgettable evening of music and drama that captures the intensity and beauty of Verdi’s genius.
September 26th and 29th at the National Theatre in Prague.

TEATRO REAL, MADRID Premiere Opera David et Jonathan. Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s opera David and Jonathan, written in 1688, is based on one of the most fascinating stories in the Old Testament: the deep friendship between David, the future King of Israel and Jonathan, the son of the current King Saul.
The opera was composed for the Jesuit school Louis-le-Grand in Paris and significantly deviates from the traditions of the 17th-century French court opera. Charpentier introduces a more intimate and personal lyricism into the grand and elaborate French court opera style typical for that time.
Charpentier’s masterpiece David et Jonathas premieres at the Teatro Real in Madrid on September 27th, 2024, performed by the instrumental and vocal group Ensemble Correspondances, led by Sébastien Daucé.
David: Petr Nekoranec
Jonathas: Gwendoline Blondeel
Saül: Jean-Christophe Lanièce
La Pythonisse: Lucile Richardot
Joabel: Etienne Bazola

Munich Philharmonic Presents: Ives and Bruckner. The Munich Philharmonic will present a remarkable program highlighting works by Charles Ives and Anton Bruckner in honor of the Bruckner Year under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock. The concerts will be held on September 19, 20, 22 at two significant historical locations: the magnificent Hall of the Isarphilharmonie Munich and the Abbey of St. Florian in Upper Austria.
Since the Celibidache era the Munich Philharmonic orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic Choir have been performing the exceptional interpretations of Bruckner's works.
The concert’s opening piece is Psalm 90 by Charles Ives. A deeply personal and vivid it is one of twelve Psalm interpretations which Ives was fully satisfied with. Psalm 90 skillfully combines a hymn-like simplicity with modern choral textures.
Bruckner's Mass No. 3 in F minor will close the concert. This remarkable work is considered one of the most notable examples of symphonic choral music.
This concert promises to be an outstanding celebration of Ives and Bruckner’s mastery, bringing together the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir in a program filled with spiritual and musical significance.

WIENER SYMPHONIKER. Petr Popelka. Musikverein, Vienna, Austria. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra is presenting a new concert program. The performances are scheduled for April 10, 11, and 12, 2024 in the Musikverein Grand Hall. The audience will hear the works by Antonin Dvořák and Richard Strauss, with Peter Popelka conducting and Gauthier Capuson playing the cello.
The program’s first part is dedicated to Antonin Dvořák’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor which is a true romantic masterpiece. Dvořák did not recognize the cello as a solo instrument. But this piece is one of Dvořák’s innermost works, a piece of contemplation, monumental expression, and liberal proportions.
The second part of the program features two Strauss’ tone poems whose appeal lies in their sophistication and fire: 'Don Juan', which is based on Nikolaus Lenau's Austrian romantic poem, and 'Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks' which became one of Strauss’ best-loved orchestral works.
