SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN MUSIK FESTIVAL. Since 1986 the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival has been one of the largest classical music festivals in Europe. It is held every summer in various locations throughout Schleswig-Holstein, in neighboring Lower Saxony, Hamburg and southern Denmark. Besides large-scale concerts, performances are held in unusual settings, including castles and mansions, barns and stables, as well as in the most magnificent churches in Schleswig-Holstein. The festival is now on and will continue until September 2nd.
On August 10th Asya Fateeva, a virtuoso saxophonist, will perform a solo program at the theater of the city of Itzehoe. The program consists of two musical pieces, dedicated to Henri Tomasi and Paul Maurice, and composed in France, the birthplace of the saxophone in the mid-20th century. The Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, led by British conductor Duncan Ward, will present Carmen Suites No. 1 and No. 2 by Georges Bizet.
On August 17, Holstenhalle 1, the largest exhibition center in the north of Germany, will host an orchestral gala concert in Neumunster.
The program features the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra performing classic hits by Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, and other composers. Conductor - Stanislav Kochanovsky, Violin - Bomsori Kim, Cello - Camille Thomas, Trumpet – Lucienne Renaudin Vary.
On August 24th, "A Little Solemn Mass" by Gioacchino Rossini will be performed at the Schleswig Cathedral.
Stefania Dovgan - soprano, Anna Alàs i Jové -mezzo-soprano, Pietro Adaíni -tenor, Simon Lim - bass, Philip Mayers - piano, Petteri Pitko – harmonium, Choir of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Nicholas Fink – conductor.
“Joy, thou shining spark of God " will be the theme of the festival’s grand finale at the State Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg. Tan Dun, the composer and conductor, will present his "Chorale Concerto: Nine", a concerto that integrates classical and modern elements to create a connection between East and West.
The audience will hear Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor and enjoy remarkable performances of Iris Hendrix, soprano, Jo-Pei Weng, alto, Xavier Moreno, tenor, Johannes Schendel, bass, World Youth Choir and Bundesugendorchester.
