Poetry Pioneers Face Off Against Garland Christian Academy in Friday’s Playoff Game
The Poetry Community Christian School (PCCS) Pioneers are gearing up for an exciting game this Friday against Garland Christian Academy in the TAPPS 2A District 4 playoffs. The game will be held at their home gym, providing the Pioneers with a crucial home-court advantage.
This playoff appearance marks a triumphant return to the postseason for the Pioneers, who last reached the playoffs in 2023. Head Coach Sidney Vaughn, Assistant Coach Allen Walzel, Assistant Coach AJ Jenkins and Athletic Director Kendrick Bryson have been instrumental in guiding the team to this momentous achievement.
Key statistics from this stand-out season:
• Kristian Johnston, Junior, the team’s top scorer, is averaging 14.5 points per game.
• Jude Shook, Senior, follows closely with an average of 10 points per game.
• Brooks Walzel, Senior, contributed an average of 9 points per game, showing consistent offensive skill.
• Dylan Knox, Senior, joined the team for the first time this season and has averaged 9.5 points per game.
• Caden Miles, Junior, also joined the team for the first time this year and leads in assists, dishing out an average of 4 per game, creating key opportunities for his teammates.
• Brody Evans, Freshman, has been an invaluable asset, stepping up to support the Varsity team after several injuries impacted the squad earlier in the season.
With strong leadership, stellar performances on the court, and unwavering community support, the Pioneers are ready to give it their all in this week’s playoff game.
As he leads the Pioneers into the postseason, Head Coach Sidney Vaughn said, “Reflecting on my first year at PCCS, the most rewarding experience has been guiding a group of young athletes to understand what it takes to win. Once we embraced that mindset, the team’s chemistry naturally followed. As a former college player, I’ve truly enjoyed mentoring these athletes and helping them compete at a high level.
Like any first-year program, we faced challenges, including tough losses. However, as the players learned to trust one another, we saw significant growth—and the victories started to follow. Now, we have the exciting opportunity to host our first-ever playoff game this Friday at 7:30 PM against Garland Christian.
I encourage everyone to come out and support a team that plays with passion, dedication, and heart. Your presence would mean a lot to these athletes as they compete at this important moment in their journey.
Looking forward to seeing you there!”
