The City of Forney has recently approved economic incentive agreements with 3MEBS/StreetLevel Investments for the Villages at Gateway project. The Villages at Gateway, which will be located near North Gateway Boulevard and U.S. Highway 80, will be a regional hub for retail, services, and dining, catering to both Forney residents and beyond. This development will feature major retailers, including Target, HEB, and Home Depot. In addition to these major brands, the Villages at Gateway will include convenience retail, fast casual, sit-down restaurants, and more.

"We are pleased to welcome these premier retailers to our city. I'd like to express my thanks to all current and previous council members, community board members, and city staff who worked to make this project possible," said Mayor Jason Roberson.

In the upcoming meeting on July 16th, the Forney City Council will discuss and consider a resolution to grant consent for the creation of Forney Municipal Management District No. 1 in Kaufman County. This district, encompassing approximately 150 acres north of Highway 80 on both sides of Gateway Blvd, will support the development of the Villages at Gateway. As part of the development strategy, a Municipal Management District will be established to generate additional tax revenue, which will assist in covering the development costs. The creation of this district does not impose any additional tax burden on Forney residents, as it will be funded solely by the additional tax revenue generated from the development.

The city anticipates sharing more information and updates as this development progresses. To view the unofficial exhibits for Villages at Gateway, visit https://www.forneytx.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=715

Suspect in custody.

On June 21, 2024, at 3:31 p.m., deputies and investigators received information about a fugitive located south of Terrell, Texas. Acting on this information, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the suspect, 44-year-old W/M Kelly Wayne Hewitt evaded the deputies, leading them on a pursuit that ended at a municipal airport in Terrel, Texas.

During the pursuit, Kelly Wayne Hewitt crashed his vehicle then fled on foot, firing shots at the pursuing deputies and their K-9 unit in a desperate attempt to escape. The situation escalated quickly, but the deputies acted with precision and care to ensure public safety and their own. Despite the suspect's efforts to flee and the dangerous circumstances, the deputies were able to disarm the suspect without returning fire. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
Remarkably, there were no injuries reported among the deputies or the K-9 unit. This successful operation highlights the bravery and professionalism of the law enforcement officers involved, who managed to resolve a potentially deadly situation without harm to themselves, their K-9, or civilians. The suspect now faces multiple charges. Charges include Evading Arrest W/Prev Conviction, Evading Arrest and Detention with a Vehicle, Aggravated Assault Public Servant, Manufacturing and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (688 grams of Methamphetamine), Interference W/Police Service Animal Killing, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Federal Probation Violation. Passenger of the suspects’ vehicle, adult female Karissa McQuay was also arrested for Evading Arrest or Detention.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Terrell Police Department, Mesquite Police Department and ATF (Bureau of Alcohol To***co and Fi****ms) for their help in capturing this wanted fugitive.

“This incident shows the ongoing risks faced by law enforcement and the importance of their training and teamwork in ensuring community safety”.
Sheriff Bryan Beavers
