Tellus Group (based in Plano) has stated that a Master-Planned Community "Meraki" will be located at FM 548 and Mann Road, bringing 2,721 homes on 1,100 acres, starting in 2025.

Following the resignation of Fire Chief Derek Briggs, the City of Forney is pleased to announce the appointment of John Holcomb as Interim Fire Chief of the Forney Fire Department.

Interim Chief Holcomb has been a dedicated member of the Forney Fire Department since 2010, serving in various leadership roles, including Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Fire Chief/Emergency Management Coordinator. He brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience to the position, complemented by several fire related certifications. These include the Fire Executive Management Training Program from the Leadership and Executive Management Institute (LEMIT), Certified Fire Executive designation through the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy, and an Executive Planning Certification from the National Fire Academy.

The City of Forney will provide updates on the recruitment process for the next Fire Chief in the coming weeks.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS: SWAT TRAINING EXERCISE

Forney community, please be advised that the Forney PD SWAT team will conduct a training exercise today at approximately 3:30 PM at a vacant structure at 11102 Walnut Lane.

Residents may hear loud noises during this exercise or see SWAT personnel in the area. This is only a training operation, and there is no cause for alarm.

On Sunday, December 8, 2024 around 11:00 pm, Officer Jacob Candanoza, Badge Number 6190, initiated a traffic stop in the 1600 block of S. State Highway 34.

Officer Candanoza requested a cover unit and units were dispatched. Within moments of this dispatch, the Terrell Police Department Communications Division received two 9-1-1 calls regarding an officer being shot. They then received a radio transmission from a citizen giving the same information. Responding officers were advised of this information, along with Terrell Fire Department and CareFlite being dispatched.

Officers arrived on scene and confirmed an officer had been shot. Medical attention was administered immediately and Officer Candanoza was transported to Baylor Scott and White in Forney. Unfortunately, Officer Candanoza did not survive the injuries sustained.

Officer Candanoza has been a police officer with the Terrell Police Department since July 2024. Our deepest condolences go out to his family as they navigate this tragic time.

It's a FREE Forney Family movie night x 2!!! This Saturday at The OC come watch Home Alone at 5:30pm AND Elf at 7:30pm on the BIG arena screen. Bring a blanket to experience the movies from the Arena floor. Chairs will be provided for floor seating as well. Popcorn will be available for $2 each. Eateries will be open!
