Satisfying Coffeeshop Video
The Beerded Bean is a coffee shop that prides itself on quality. From their $23,000 espresso machine to their friendly smiles. A lot of love, time, and attention is put into each cup of coffee. And we wanted to capture that in a video. So, we took an actual customer’s order and filmed the process of making his drink.
Then in the editing room, I picked a song that matched the environment of the shop: J. Cole’s “Work Out”. I’d heard it on the shop’s speakers before and it had a good beat. Then I added sound effects, visual effects, and enhanced the coloring. This was the final result!
Big shoutout to James for being so patient and helpful in shooting this (I love you, James!). And thank you Jonathan for helping us model and letting us take 20 minutes to make your drink 😜 Also I want to thank Ernest, Eric, and Michael for the opportunities you’ve given me, the skills you’ve helped me develop, and for showing me how to do what you love. Powerful Workout Video
This isn’t just a buff cool guy. His name is Manny, and he had a serious eating disorder just 9 months ago. Even though he always worked out, he always had a belly, and he had a weird relationship with food…
…Whenever Manny sat down to eat, he would think: “you never know when you’re going to eat again, so you better eat it all” and he would… He would DoorDash Taco Bell to his front door, eat the food, and burry the food containers at the bottom of the garbage can, so his wife wouldn’t see it… And almost every morning Manny would go to Starbucks for a venti latte and 2 coffee cakes. One day they were out of coffee cakes. So, he drove to another Starbucks, and they were out too. So, he drove to another Starbucks and another Starbucks, until he visited every Starbucks in Monterey County. Nobody had his favorite coffee cake. So, he drove to a gas station and bought 2 coffee cakes to satisfy his addiction.
His wife noticed, his physical trainer noticed, and after that crazy coffee cake run, Manny noticed. So, he bought himself a copy of the Alcoholics Anonymous Book, went through it, and quickly realized he had a real addiction.
Manny started attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings, working the 12-steps, and got himself a sponsor. He quickly learned that he was using food to comfort himself. After 30 days clean, he had an uncomfortable argument with his wife, and then relapsed and ate 3 bags of chips. When Manny finally saw what was going on, it brought him to his knees, and he surrendered food to God.
That. Changed. Everything.
Meals became a time of worship. Manny thanks God for his food and asks Him when to stop eating and walk away. “Because my soul began to change, my body began to change” Manny told me. And that’s why he isn’t just a buff cool guy.
The Beerded Bean is a popular coffee shop in Salinas, CA that has Open Mic Nights every Friday from 7 – 10pm. Musicians, poets, and comedians jump on the mic and give it their best shot, while the audience hangs out and enjoys beer, coffee, or hot chocolate (it’s a nice place to enjoy a friday night, without being around drunk people or loud music).
I wanted to communicate the entire experience in less than 20 seconds. So, I captured a bunch of different sounds (downtown Salinas noises, crowd noises in the shop, and actual music that was being playing). Then I captured specific video clips. Starting with Salinas arch, because every local knows where that is, and then continuing with a bunch of different clips from inside the shop. Showing the atmosphere and what was going on.
After capturing all the audio and video footage I wanted, I went home and did a bunch of editing. This was the final result!
I’m happy with it. It quickly and accurately shows you what an Open Mic Night looks like at The Beerded Bean. And my client was happy with it too! He texted me: “Beautiful work man!” 😊
