It’s been a heartbreaking week for the Oak Ridge Boys. On July 1st, Rusty Golden, son of the Oaks’ William Lee Golden, passed away at the age of 65. Today we get the sad news that longtime member Joe Bonsall has left us, due to complications from ALS. Joe was the high tenor for the past 50 years and sang lead on many of their hits, most notably, Elvira. Six months ago Joe retired from the road due to his ongoing health problems. I got to interview Joe several times over the years, most recently 2021, and he was always upbeat and very accommodating. Joe Bonsall was 76. 😢

Sad to report that legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist Forrest Richard “Dickey” Betts has passed away at the age of 80. The cause was cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dickey was one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers band and as a singer and writer, responsible for their biggest hit Ramblin Man in 1973, as well as some of their most recognizable songs, including Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Crazy Love. He passed away at his home In Osprey, Florida surrounded by his family. RIP Dickey 🤘

Congratulations to the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame! Legendary guitarist James Burton in the Recording and/or Touring Musician category, John Anderson as the Veteran Era Artist choice and Toby Keith is the Modern Era Artist selection. Sadly Toby passed away before the Hall was able to notify him of his selection. There will be a medallion ceremony in the fall when they will all be officially inducted. Congrats gentlemen, well done! 👏👏
