Our Story
For 30 years, the Tempermill has catered to the musically left-of-center in the true independent/ alternative spirit, with stacks of major-label projects and over a thousand indie releases .
A spacious 3000-sq.-ft. facility situated in picturesque Ferndale, Michigan, the Tempermill is an amalgamation of great acoustics, inspired professional engineering and convenient, laid-back environs. The whole place was designed for making records, a live end/dead end recording space with plenty of iso booths for tracking large projects, an extra large control room big enough for the whole band to comfortably listen and a lounge/kitchen to make you feel at home with cutting edge video games like Super Mario Brothers and NHL 94 ;-). We also have a lovely mastering suite to put the finishing touches on your CD.
The studio combines the latest and greatest ProTools|HD3 digital editing and mixing with the most desirable vintage and distinctive high-end analog gear--we still love cutting to tape! We're compatable with all digital formats, so we can easily help you finish your home recording or transfer projects to and from other studios.
A wide selection of instruments and outboard gear is always on hand, (check out the equipment page) but if you need something rare or specific, we'll do our best to get our hands on it for you.
Over 20 different music awards, including a Grammy, stand as a testament to the Tempermill's continuing excellence. With dozens of major-label projects and 800+ indie releases, we're versatile and accommodating.
We feel that not having a definable "sound" is the greatest compliment for a studio. Our aim is to help you make the best recording possible.
After all, it's your record! Let's make it great together
