The community gathered in #farmvilleva Friday night to welcome in the Christmas season through the lighting of the Christmas tree. This marks the 10th year of the event.
Residents from all over the region came over to Meherrin Fire & Rescue Saturday, for the 38th annual fireworks celebration. Here’s a look.

“It all started here.” During Sunday’s ceremony honoring three generations of Prince Edward residents, Skip Griffin reminded the audience that the fight which became Brown v. Board of Education, the battle against segregation, started in this county in rural Virginia.
Members of the “Locked Out Generation”, who were unable to go to school for five years as county supervisors shut down public schools in 1959, made the walk on Sunday to receive a degree at Longwood.
The juris doctor degree was given out to the Locked Out Generation, as well as their predecessors. And for those who couldn’t make it or were no longer with us, children and grandchildren represented them.
Members of the Farmville Fire Department and Hampden-Sydney Volunteer Fire Department, under the instruction of Training Manager Cayden Eagles, took part in a training exercise Sunday in responding to household fires. The building, located at West Third Street, is owned by the Town of Farmville.
