In my faith tradition, we excise the word “Alleluia” from our vocabulary during Lent. Why? Because it’s important to save the celebratory exclamations for the appropriate time so that we might more deeply enter those 40 days in the desert with Jesus, to face our human weakness and propensity to sin. Only when we acknowledge our failings and seek repentance can we start anew and accept the reality of the Resurrection and the freedom that God wants for us all....

Whenever the topic of abortion comes up in “Living Faith,” strong emotions in every direction follow. Most recently, the subject emerged from this letter to the editor and my response . Writing publicly on controversial topics can evoke disagreement, so I was prepared to let the Feb. 26 letter to the editor by Hilary Ray dangle. But I’m concerned about the public being misled. It seems important to note that Ray and I spend time in a similar space, sometimes just feet from each other, on a regular basis; she, as an es**rt who brings women seeking abortion into our local abortion facility, and I, as a sidewalk advocate attempting to offer life-giving help to the clients....
