UPDATE:
The Fairhope Police Department is currently investigating the death of an individual found outside a home on Prospect Avenue at 8:30 a.m. this morning. Initial evidence suggests a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but a thorough investigation will continue. The man had no known connection to the residence where he was discovered, and there appears to be no threat to public safety.

Investigators believe this case may be linked to an altercation that took place in the McDonald's parking lot on Thursday evening, which resulted in another individual being hospitalized for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper leg.

ROAD CLOSURE:
Prospect Avenue, located between Hospital Drive and Ingleside (two blocks west of Walgreens), is currently closed as officers are responding to an incident involving a deceased individual. We will provide updates as soon as possible.

In response to an incident that took place on New Year’s Eve, law enforcement teams confirmed there was no credible threat regarding explosive devices, and they continue to investigate the origin of the incident. A bomb threat was directed to the City of Fairhope, targeting a downtown business that night. The threat named a local resident as the sender, but it was later discovered to be the result of a video game hack and a “swatting” prank.

“Swatting” involves falsely reporting an emergency to disrupt First Responder services. Although the threat was baseless, Investigators will persist in their investigation with the aim of pressing charges against the perpetrator, even though many “swatting” incidents originate overseas.
