I remember when I came across this movie. I had just ended an abusive relationship (emotionally and mentally) with a narcissistic partner. I had found out he was cheating on me in the Starbucks line due to the girl he was cheating with standing in front of me. It was horrifying. When I confronted him he told me no one wanted me due to my being fat and bland looking. This comment played in my mind for years. It sank into my soul and very being. When I came across this movie it gave me such comfort. I loved how Penelope realized that she was her greatest love. She likes herself just as she was. She didn’t feel the need to change for others, despite pressure from her family and outsiders. We are our own worst critics many times. It is not until we like and love ourselves that we truly shine. Until then we will always look at those around us wondering if we are enough for others and the things we want to achieve. You are enough. Lady Danbury was my favorite character on Bridgerton. I found her empowering and wise. In reality she was the sort of person I aspired to be in her boldness, unwavering personality, and unapologetic moves. Although she is fictional I learned quite a lot from her character. She was observant and witty. She thought before she spoke, and was intentional instead of reactionary. What I loved most about her was how she demanded respect without having to say a word.
