For those who need a headshot photo, UAF’s professional picture day will be tomorrow on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Wood Center upstairs, outside of the Ballroom (indoor only). No appointments are required for this date; drop in and get your photo taken care of for free!

If you are attending the Graduation Gear-Up you will have an opportunity to take your photo for profiles and applications as you enter the next phase of your life!

Welcome back, ! Your spring semester starts next week! Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as we approach the first day of classes.

Adding and Dropping Courses
Students need instructor permission to enroll in 100 and 200 level full-term courses and any MATH and STAT courses starting the second week of the semester, Tuesday, Jan. 21.

You have until Friday, Jan. 24, to finalize any changes. Check with the Financial Aid Office to be sure that any changes you make to your schedule won't negatively impact the financial aid you've received.

Fee Payment
The Office of the Bursar is your resource for questions related to fee payment. If you have any concerns about not being able to pay on time, explore your options — such as a payment plan — to avoid being dropped for non-payment after Jan. 24. On Jan. 25 a $125 late fee will be applied to accounts that have a balance.

Being dropped for non-payment means you won't be enrolled in some or all of your classes. If you're enrolled in a meal plan, it may be suspended and your ability to live in campus housing may be in jeopardy.

While sometimes treated as lowbrow entertainment, cinematic science fiction is often pensive, philosophical, and intelligent. More than escapist fun or cartoonish aliens, the dramatic sci-fi film offers us an important critical lens through which to analyze the societal touchstones and structures of an era, and to consider how present conditions shape both our collective imaginations and visions of our future world, which are ever-changing and shifting.

In ENGL/FLPA F427 The Contemporary Sci-Fi Film, we will consider the hopes, dreams, and fears surrounding post-20th century technological development through a small representative sample of films, starting with 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Offered both in-person and asynchronously online.

Online students can attend optional film screenings in-person on Tuesdays from 3:40pm-6:00pm.
