Christmas in Birdsboro included a Santa Run, craft show, wine and beer tasting, fun for the whole family and concluded with a laser light show and fireworks.

This year’s event began with 64 runners in the annual Santa Run 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run and ended with Mayor Tony Scioli lighting the tree as laser lights and fireworks filled the sky.

Held on the historic Sharadin Farmstead at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center in Kutztown, the free family-friendly event celebrated Pennsylvania German Christmas traditions, including a visit from the Belsnickel — wearing furs, smeared in soot and waving a bundle of birch switches.

The Pa German Cultural Center event included live music, traditional crafts, folklife demonstrations and open-hearth cooking.
