Motivation Mondays with Menasha
Don’t Be Scared
I have a story to share, a tale which forced me partially out of my safe, little world, into something new, exhilarating, and at the same time, terrifying. My name is Menasha Shea-Scott, and (deep a*z breath) I’m a writer. That’s the first time I’ve typed that for public viewing, and according to the guy who coaxed me into embracing this new reality (Hey Marlon!), it will not be the last, by far.
Last year, I observed a Facebook discussion in one of my writing groups, and the subject was erotic/steamy romance stories. A comment about the necessity and appreciation for the genre by a guy led to an innocent (HAHA) dialogue between us in messenger. Finally, he convinced me to send him a story, and nervously, I did. It’s called ‘The Divorce Lawyer.’ He didn’t respond for a few days, and my feelings were hurt, because I thought that meant it sucked. When he got back to me, he asked “what else do you have?” And then, he told me his plan.
I didn’t know his credentials, as far as being a writer and CEO of an erotic publishing company. He told me these things, and yeah, I Googled him, because people lie or over exaggerate. He was legit, and I listened to his thoughts and plans about my writing. Yes, MY WRITING! I sent him four short stories; plus the first part of a novel I’ve been toying with. I received a contract from Marlon S. Hayes and Delicious Escape Publications, and after research and convos with my husband and homegirl (she’s a lawyer), I signed. He said they weren’t even looking to sign any writers, but I intrigued them. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
So… I am next up in the release queue. ‘Chasing Waterfalls’ coming soon! Also (here we go again!), he talked me into writing a post every week for Mondays. ‘Motivation Mondays with Menasha.’ I like it. I hope you all do as well.
We hide our true selves in metaphorical closets, not realizing how much we’re cheating our souls by doing so. Exhale, put it on the altar, and step out into something new, which may be the one thing needed to become the best version of ourselves. See, that’s motivation, right?
Talk to y’all next week, and thanks. It was nice to meet all of you.
