An audience friendly solo feature for vibraphone with small ensemble - pop/rock ballad feel.

Includes a set of "music minus one" recordings allowing practice options for each instrument. Accessible materials are viable for teaching younger ensembles the basics of improvisation. In more experienced hands this is a wonderful audience friendly title that could be used in advanced recital settings as well as in concert venues.

Our April Alumnus of the Month is Richard K. LeVan.

Founding it in 1992, Richard K. LeVan, M.A. in Music Performance (percussion) from IUP (1980), has been Editor-in-Chief of HoneyRock Publishing, www.honeyrock.net, for nearly thirty years. Rich completed his PhD in Ethnomusicology, specializing in African Studies, at the University of Pittsburgh in 1990. Between graduate degrees, Rich spearheaded percussion, jazz, and ethnomusicology programs at Kentucky State University in Frankfort and San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. For more than five decades, LeVan has performed widely in a variety of jazz/pop and symphonic settings. Rich’s research interests have often focused on the impact of the music and related arts of sub-Saharan Africa on Western Art Music composers of the mid-twentieth century.

In 2017, Rich published a comprehensive and landmark English-language scholarly treatise on African Numismatics, titled, A Numismatic History of Congo/Zaire: 1887-1997.
