Father Ross discussed the themes of gathering and scattering in today’s Gospel & how they resonate with the idea of unity versus division.

Gathering brings things together, creating unity and a sense of community—whether it’s people coming together in prayer, family around the dinner table, or fruits being collected from a farm. When we gather, we come together in purpose, support, and love, forming a whole from many parts.

On the other hand, scattering represents separation and disunity. Just as birds scatter when they’re afraid, scattering can symbolize losing connection or breaking apart what was once whole.

In life, fear, misunderstandings, or lack of faith can cause people to “scatter,” losing the unity and strength that come from being together.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus may be calling us to reflect on how we gather or scatter in our own lives.

Are we working to bring people together, to build community, and to strengthen our faith?

Or do our actions sometimes contribute to division and disconnection?

Just as Father shared the imagery of gathering apples and feeding birds, we are reminded that our faith asks us to gather in love, to foster unity, and to avoid actions that might scatter and separate us from each other and from God.
