Be weather aware! This severe weather threat will be between midnight and 6 AM for the metro area. We are also in a 2% chance for tornadoes.

A few storms could become strong to severe with hail and gusty wind. Each of the storms will be producing locally heavy rain and, ironically, localized flash flooding is possible. A front comes through Wednesday afternoon that should dry things out.

Air Quality Alert issued September 15 at 9:51AM CDT by NWS Paducah KY

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has called for an Air Quality Action Day for high levels of Ozone in the air for Tuesday, September 16, 2025, for the following Southwest Indiana counties,

Vanderburgh, Posey, Warrick, Spencer, and Gibson.

This alert is IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT CDT TUESDAY NIGHT.

An Ozone Alert is issued when a combination of high temperatures, light winds and other factors are expected to produce conditions where high levels of ozone emissions may exceed federally mandated standards.

Here are some recommended actions that the public can take to reduce Ozone emissions:

* Walk, bike, carpool, or use public transportation

* Avoid using the drive-through and combine errands into one trip

* Avoid refueling your vehicle or using gasoline-powered lawn equipment until after 7 pm

* Turn off your engine when idling for more than 30 seconds

* Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the air conditioner to 75 degrees or above.

Anyone sensitive to changes in air quality may be affected when Ozone levels are high. Children, the elderly, and anyone with heart or lung conditions should reduce or avoid exertion and heavy work outdoors.

📣🚨 TURN OFF YOUR A/C if you’re in the affected areas. Important Safety Update - Please Share!
Because of the chemical fire in our area, officials are recommending everyone stay indoors and turn off air conditioners!!!!
Most central air systems only recycle the air already inside your home, so they usually don’t pull in much outdoor air. The bigger concern is exhaust fans (bathroom fans, kitchen vents, clothes dryers), which push air out and can draw smoky or contaminated air back inside through cracks.
What to do:
• Keep doors and windows closed.
• Avoid running exhaust fans or dryers.
• If your A/C system has a fresh-air intake, turn it off.
• If you’re unsure, it’s safest to leave your A/C off until the air clears.
Your health and safety come first — stay indoors, limit exposure, and we’ll keep you updated
