Severe threat has diminished for tonight but the threat for flash flooding has increased. Showers/storms will gradually move in from the west this evening then diminish overnight. 0.5" to 1.0" of rain will be common across much of , but locally heavier 1-4" amounts are possible which may lead to some flash flooding in a few locations.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible until a cold front makes passage Monday night. The main hazards from any storms will be torrential downpours, lightning, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph. Can’t completely rule out a stronger storm that may briefly produce damaging winds near 60 mph though. The rest of the week looks dry starting on Tuesday. Lower humidity will also be realized beginning Tuesday and especially on Wednesday.

The heat wave will continue through the entire week with daily heat index values over 100 degrees. The risk of an isolated shower or storm is fairly low, but non-zero that may provide limited relief.

A Heat Advisory is in effect through Tuesday for the entire region as the first heat wave of the season continues. Heat index values above 100 degrees are expected each day.

A dangerous, prolonged heatwave will begin Saturday and continue through the middle of next week at least. Expected daily peak heat index values of 100 to 107° and air temperatures in the lower to middle 90s.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
Southern Illinois
Southern Indiana
Western Kentucky
Southeast Missouri

* Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 205 PM
until 800 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
A couple tornadoes possible
Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
to 75 mph possible
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will continue to develop along and ahead of
a boundary over southern Illinois and spread eastward through the
afternoon. Damaging winds and large hail are possible, along with a
few tornadoes.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles
east and west of a line from 40 miles west of Fort Campbell KY to 75

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
Northeast Illinois
Northern and Central Indiana
Southwest Lower Michigan
Lake Michigan

* Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from NOON until
700 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
A few tornadoes likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible
Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
to 75 mph possible
Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Intense thunderstorms currently developing over central
Illinois will spread northeastward through the afternoon. High
instability and favorable wind fields will promote a risk of
damaging winds and tornadoes.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 85 statute miles
east and west of a line from 25 miles north northwest of South Bend
IN to 35 miles south of Bloomington IN. For a complete depiction of

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 4PM today for northern portions of SE Missouri and northern/western portions of S Illinois. A NNW to SSE line of storms is projected to develop near the Mississippi River and track northeastward into the early afternoon hours. A few severe storms are possible with this line.

The best potential for severe thunderstorms today will be during the late morning to early afternoon from SE Missouri to the Evansville Tri-State and through the afternoon and evening in Western Kentucky. Isolated to scattered severe storms are possible through the day into the overnight hours.
