Giles Robson has created a truly beautiful and soulful testament to a handful of Blues immortals that you will love all over again.
Everything else I have to say about this is in the liner notes, which I was honored - and inspired - to write.
Give it a listen. Son House, Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy II, Junior Wells and Big Bill Broonzy will be glad you did.

The Howlin' Wolf was the first significant Black Historic figure that I ever saw up close. I have still never seen anyone like him. I am proud to be able to stand in front of an audience, whether an audience of one or a full auditorium, and share the powerful impact Black History - and its heroes like Howlin' Wolf - has on me every day. The Blues is my favorite part of American History, reflective of the voices of protest, the resilience of spirit, the inspiring imagination and the undaunted swagger that combined to create the most resonant, relevant and impactful music the world has ever known. If you can't catch me at the Black History Month celebration at Glenwood-Lynwood Library next Wednesday, February 7 (I'm also doing some private gigs), I'll be joining my writing partner, Derrick Procell at the Raue Center in Crystal Lake on Feb 15 for a big night of our protest and activist music....most of it just drippin' with the Blues.
Check with me or Derrick for deets, and whether you make it to these gigs or not, you'll have a richer Black History Month experience if you can listen to a little Blues every day....and go to YouTube to actually see what these Bluesicians looked like. And, between you and me, you'll have a richer Black History Month experience if you can make it last 12 months a year, because whether you've noticed it or not, Black History is with us every day. And that's a good thing.
And don't miss my return to WNUR 89.3 fm wnur.org on Feb 11 at 2pm Chi Time.

THE BERK DOOR MAN!
Tomorrow at 2pm Chi Time, Lynn and I welcome the newest member of The Blues Show team: Longtime WNUR Roots Rocker, Lou Berkman. Lou is gonna roll out a broad Bluesy pallet, hittin' a whole lotta styles and eras, so there's a lot to love and a lot to discover, including Johnny and Shemeka Copeland, J.B. Lenoir and Hutto, T-Bone Walker, H-Bomb Ferguson, Erwin Helfer, Joel Patterson, Mary Johnson, Junior Wells, Jimmy Yancy, and many more, including some Christmas blues if time allows. Tune in for a fun Blues mix.
And, if you don't think great minds think alike, I'll be back next Sunday, Christmas Eve, playin' a little JB Lenoir of my own.
Plus, we'll be dedicating the second hour to the recordings of Eve....yes, the original Eve from G-O-E fame....including her 1932 recordings in the San Antonio Hotel, and her 1939 field recordings with Mance Lipscomb.
But for now, Welcome aboard, Lou.

The WNUR-FM Phoneathon is happening February 18-28… where we raise all the money from listeners to keep the lights on and the radio waves in the air, instead of having to bow down to greedy corporate sponsors we’ll eventually wind up boycotting anyway. Give generously over the phone by calling (847) 866-WNUR or online at wnur.org/donate. Check out the cool merch, too.

IN THE BELLY OF THE BLUES returns this Sunday with so much amazing music, you might have to listen TWICE to hear it all (easy to do, just go to https://www.inthebellyoftheblues.com/ and find it in the Terry on the Radio archives).
First off, Payola Premiere showcases three fantastic new albums from three Bluesicians you will definitely count among your faves by 4:01pm Sunday: Carolyn Wonderland's Tempting Fate," Mick Kolassa's "Wasted Youth," and Lauren Anderson's "Love on the Rocks." Plus, five takes on a 56 year old Bob Dylan Classic that never gets old from Bob, Carolyn, Taj, David Bromberg and Bloomfield, Kooper & Stills. From the Corritoreum, we eavesdrop on FBI phonetaps of a voicemail from John Brim to Bob Corritore setting up a juicy Bob/John/Henry Gray nugget. Plus, Bette Smith reprises my favorite song from last year's Payola Premiere boneshaker, "The Good, the Bad and the Bette." Then, a soul-stirring one-two punch from Derrick Procell including the GALACTIC PREMIERE celebrating the original rise of the Blues as the first voice to stand in defiance of White Supremacy, "Nobody Called it the Blues," AND the original performance of "In the Blood of the Blues" that caught Shemekia Copeland's ear and wound up on her 2018 Blues Album of the Year, "America's Child." THEN, the voices of conscience, Reverend Payton and our good buddy Bobby Black Hat rise, respectively, in protest against against persecution of the poor and in condemnation of the Jan 6 rioters.
And finally, we dig deep to figure out which part of Critical Race Theory (not my phrase, by the way) is really just a theory. All this, plus Kevin Burt, Charlie Patton and Me. So turn your clock back and be there 2 to 4pm this Sunday: In the Belly of the Blues on The Blues Show WNUR-FM 89.3 fm in Chicago and wnur.org world wide, also gettable thru Tune In and all those internet radio outlets.

For many blues fans, May 14, 2015 was the day the music died... the day that B.B. King passed away at age 89. There had never been before -- and may never will be again -- a more influential figure in blues music, a man whose presence, talent and unique sound characterized what blues music was worldwide. In tribute to the undisputed King of the Blues, the man born in rural Mississippi in 1925 as Riley B. King, the WNUR-FM Sunday Blues Show's ShortStack Steve Temkin compiled and presented this tribute to the man and his life and music, featuring priceless selections from his impressive catalog of songs, as well as commentary from the likes of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana and more, including the King himself relating stories from his legendary life and career. Be sure to tune in to 89.3 FM Easter Sunday 2021 at 2 pm Central time or stream live at www.wnur.org.
