Keep Local News Alive in Wyoming – Subscribe Today

Just a few weeks ago, the Herald nearly went dark forever. Readers lost a trusted source of news. Advertisers lost their voice. Communities lost their record-keeper.

Today, we are back – and stronger – because neighbors like you stood up for local journalism.

We’ve rehired the editors, reporters, designers, and advertising reps you know and trust. They’re once again covering your schools, city councils, courts, and Friday night games – keeping civic life visible and accountable. But to keep these papers alive, we need your support.

Why Subscribe?

· Because local papers are run by people who live here, work here, and raise families here.

· Because your subscription means more reporters, stronger coverage, and deeper community connections.

· Because every dollar stays in Wyoming, reinvested in our towns, our businesses, and our shared future.

We’re not the old owners. We’re your neighbors. Our mission is to restore trust, grow coverage, and ensure that Wyoming voices are heard.

Your subscription is more than access to a newspaper. It’s a vote for transparency, accountability, and the stories that make our communities stronger.

Join us in writing this next chapter. Subscribe today and help ensure that reliable local journalism continues to belong to the people it serves – you.

Thursday night was an exciting one for the EHS volleyball team, as the Lady Devils upset No. 5-ranked Star Valley in a 5-set thriller, 3-2!
Evanston won the first two sets, and appeared poised to win the match in a sweep. But as is the case whenever these two teams meet, it wouldn’t be that easy. SV won the next two sets to force the 5th-set tiebreaker. Down 10-5 in the final set, the Lady Devils battled back to win the final set — and the match — 17-15!
Way to go, Evanston!!

Big night for the Rich Rebels football team Friday, who won a wild one against visiting Milford, 25-18.
The Tigers scored on their first two possessions to take a 12-0 lead, but the Rebels’ defense took over after that, not allowing another offensive score. Rich is now 2-0 on the season, and will travel to North Summit next week to take on the 1-1 Braves.

BREAKING NEWS: The Herald is saved!!!

Veteran Wyoming News Execs Announce Agreement To Save 8 Newspapers

BUFFALO – Robb and Jen Hicks and Rob Mortimore announced Tuesday they have reached an agreement in principle with News Media Corporation to purchase the company’s Wyoming publications and resume publication immediately.
The announcement comes six days after News Media Corporation suddenly announced the immediate closure of all of its publications, including eight publications in Niobrara, Goshen, Platte, Sublette and Uinta counties.
Robb Hicks said the agreement includes rehiring all the newspapers’ staff members and immediately resuming publication of all titles.
“We are honored to assume stewardship of these legacy community newspapers,” Robb Hicks said. “Our foremost priority has been to ensure that these counties are not left without a credible, enduring source of local journalism.”
“We also owe an immense debt of gratitude to JJ Tompkins,” added Mortimore. “It would have been far simpler for him to yield to the demands of creditors. Instead, he chose to work with us to safeguard the future of these Wyoming communities, to preserve their newspapers, and to ensure that every employee was paid and retained.”
Both Hicks and Mortimore also extended their appreciation to the newspapers’ staff for their dedication, professionalism, and steadfast belief that a solution could be secured to revive these publications.
“We are equally grateful to community members for their unwavering support,” said Hicks. “A newspaper is the lifeblood of a community, but it can only thrive when the community it serves invests in its survival.”
On Aug. 6, Tompkins, CEO of News Media Corporation, announced that the company’s eight publications in five Wyoming counties, as well as its newspapers in other states, would close immediately. Citing a “significant economic slowdown impacting our industry” and a recent failed attempt to sell the company, Tompkins said he had made the “difficult decision” to shutter the company’s newspapers immediately.
The news of the papers’ closure was met with shock and sadness in the communities the papers serve. In Facebook comments, community members lamented the loss to their communities and questioned whether there might be options to reopen the publications.
Mortimore has more than two decades of experience in the news industry and he was the group publisher of News Media Corporation’s Wyoming publications prior to the company closing those papers. He will continue to serve as group publisher. He and his wife Shaylee reside in Torrington.
Robb and Jen Hicks have owned and operated the Buffalo Bulletin (Johnson County, Wyoming) since 1996. The Hicks family has multigenerational ties to Wyoming newspapers that dates back over seven decades.

Dear friends and neighbors,

We are heartbroken to inform you that this week's Uinta County Herald will be the last issue published. As of today, our parent company, News Media Corporation, has closed its doors and the doors of the dozens of newspapers it owned. In southwest Wyoming, this includes the Herald, the Bridger Valley Pioneer, the Kemmerer Gazette and the Pinedale Roundup. We are sad for our outstanding and loyal staff and the wonderful communities we had the opportunity to serve.
