Exciting news !! We are opening the doors to our new youth center here at NCIDC , The NEST. It will be located at 233 F Street, Eureka Ca and will serve Native youth ages 12-24. The NEST will be open for students, starting 2/4/24, from Tuesday - Saturday, 1pm - 6:30pm. To celebrate, we are inviting you to our grand opening event on Saturday 2/1/24, from 1-4pm. This will be a chance for community to check out the space and provide feedback on services as we continue to build to better serve our people. There will be food and door prizes. Please tell a student in your life, tell all your friends, cousins, nieces and nephews! The NEST is the place to be.. We look forward to seeing you there

🩺 Humboldt County Fourth District Supervisor Natalie Arroyo and a panel of local medical leaders will hold a community learning event to share information about healthcare provider recruitment and retention in Humboldt on Monday, Jan. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Eureka.

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱
Supervisor Arroyo spent many months interviewing local doctors, nurse practitioners and medical facility leaders on topics related to healthcare recruitment and retention in Humboldt County. At this event, Supervisor Arroyo will share a summary of these interviews and key themes.

Following the presentation, a panel of medical leaders will participate in a discussion on the topic of healthcare provider recruitment and retention needs and opportunities in the region.

Panelists will include Humboldt Senior Resource Center PACE Medical Director Jennifer Heidmann, M.D., Providence Humboldt County Chief Executive Michael Keleman, United Indian Health Services Chief Clinical Officer Chris Myers, M.D., Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District CEO Matthew Rees, Mad River Community Hospital CEO Doug Shaw, Open Door Community Health Center CEO Tory Starr, County of Humboldt Public Health Officer Candy Stockton, M.D. and Redwoods Rural Health Center CEO Seth Whitmer.

Panelists will discuss their efforts to address recruitment and retention of doctors, physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners, then will answer questions submitted by the public.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺
This community information session will take place on Monday, Jan. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be livestreamed by Access Humboldt and will provide opportunities for audience engagement using a simple, live online polling platform. This information will be provided during the meeting, and people will be able to participate using a smartphone or home computer.

A limited number of in person seats will be available to community members who have pre-registered to attend the event in Eureka. Supervisor Arroyo would like to warmly thank the more than 45 interviewees who shared their knowledge with her, all the panelists who have offered their time for this event, Access Humboldt for their support with the broadcast, and the County of Humboldt’s team who have helped to make this event possible.

The County of Humboldt has heard ample interest from the community about the local medical sector and its future. Additional healthcare-related learning opportunities will take place in cooperation with local leaders and partners in 2025.
