Updating you here 9 days ahead of the Annular Eclipse which is first visible on land on the Oregon Coast next Saturday starting around 8am!

Of course, being in Oregon, there is some degree of weather uncertainty for viewing and camping conditions. We are optimistically planning our weekend event, while watching the weather feverishly of course. Good news today is that rain predicted has largely shifted off the weekend, but of course we won't have a clear picture til next week. Rest assured you will be offered a refund if conditions are such that we feel it is best to cancel.

Oregonians are getting very excited for this Eclipse - note there will not be another one visible in Oregon until 2044! That's 21 years folks, and that's why we are planning our event despite weather uncertainty.

We have the most ideal viewing point picked out, elevated with sweeping views to the East. Could not be more perfect!

This will be an annual eclipse which means the sun will black out 95% leaving the ring of fire effect similar to pictured. YOU MUST HAVE ECLIPSE VIEWING GLASSES TO VIEW AN ECLIPSE. At no point during an Annular Eclipse is it safe to take the glasses off - that only occurs in totality and this is not quite totality.

Super excited to bring Rithma to your fine city to join in the fun!
Rithma first played Tropical at our 4-Year Anniversary party in October 2002

Soon after he became our resident DJ, and went on tour with us in the summer of 2003 when we drove all the way from LA to, you guessed it Portland!

Rithma was an instant hit in the Rose City, and made several visits in years to come.

Fast-forward to last year, and after a long absence, a new post-pandemic party in Eugene called 'Bring Love Back' brought Rithma back to Oregon last April.

Just a couple months later Rithma played a beautiful set at the gorgeous Tropical Oregon Summer Campout.

Almost half that party's attendees hailed from Portland and inevitably we heard this question a lot - "When is Rithma coming back to Portland"

Bio: Etienne Stehelin (aka Rithma) first emerged between 1999-2001 with a string of 12”s on Om Records, Tweekin, Beau Monde, and others.

This Saturday in Oregon! I am very excited to play a main room techno set at the Den Portland between two very talented West Coast DJS- Joe Pea (Dance Klassique, Bend) and Evan Casey (Desert Hearts, Los Angeles)

I'm also excited to be curating, hosting, and closing out the final hour of the house room here, following August Scout, Charlie Sway, Chelsea Gerlach, and Claudia Martinez.

I'll be getting my dance on early, and on the decks 11:30-1:00 and 2:00-3:00.

Our Story

Born at early Desert Hearts to fill a need for small-festival coffee and espresso vending, Annand Organic Cafe (born as Cafe Annand) initially served White Vortex, DH, Tropical and Psytribe/Spring Freakquency events, and even one hot summer Konnexion Fest in Idaho :) On June 4th, 2019 we got keys to our first brick and mortar location at right next to the historic W.O.W. Hall at 281 West 8th Ave. in downtown Eugene, OR. And the next chapter begins! Currently we are making improvements to our building and equipment and will be launching our crowdfunding campaign soon :) The vision in for Annand Organic Cafe to grow into a unique ‘Dance Cafe’ where dancers can come to preparty or after-party from other events, and occasionally spend the whole night right here. Rather than the typical alcohol offerings of a bar, our dance cafe seeks to provided other types of energy boost from elevated espresso drinks, superfood smoothies, and energizing elixirs as well as eventually offering a vegan grab and go. Initially we will be popping up around other events and for our own special events as well as being available for private rentals - this is the perfect spot for a birthday party or other small gathering ;) Eventually we look to also have regular business hours and employees to serve the downtown Eugene area with healthy vegan drinks and to go meals. We have always focused on affordable high-quality espresso drinks and smoothies and pride ourselves in the following: - Sourcing coffee that is organic, to protect the planet, and fair trade, to protect our people - All organic smoothie ingredients and coffee supplements - Encouraging bring your own cup at festivals with discounts and perks - Always using compostable products since opening December 2012 - not one single-use plastic container has been given out by our cafe! Now that we are going brick and mortar we want to abide by even stricter principles and look forward to telling you more in our next post!
