Folks have asked me about bass re-amping, and today is reamp day, so, here goes the short version. Sorta. With pix. What I do is record the bass direct, usually through a Countryman DI. Then I take that track, send it back out through the Aurora into this reamp box have, adjust the trim accordingly, and then mic the bass amp as it plays the DI track back. In this case, we added a RAT pedal for a touch of grit because RATs sound AWESOME on bass. (be sure to fiddle with the k***s to get it right). I have an RE20 and a D12 on the cab in the pic, but after listening back, we're going with the RE20. The D12 either works on cabs, or doesn't. In this case, the RE20 gave me what I was looking for. Both went through a Daking MicPre1.
I didn't invent this technique, heck, this box was made for this. (I used to use a homebrew, but this one does do a better job). But this method has a slew of advantages, not the least of which, punches are MUCH easier. Plus, for smaller studios, bass can be tough to corral in a live session. This way, I can set the amp up in the ideal location in a large space, and mic it properly without worrying about bleed into drum mics.

It's red light time again! Bad Luck Blackouts will be here all weekend, we'z gonna make a record! Got Cody's drums miced up and sounding killer. Everyone else comes in tomorrow and we hit REC. Tried a couple new things this time on drums, always like to throw something new in there, keep me on my toes. But as always, UM70s up top. Damn they sound good on his kit.

When Les Paul made his first solidbody, it was literally a 4x with pickups screwed to it. People were taken aback by the weird look, so he glued the sides of an Epiphone hollow body to it - then everyone was happy.

Back at it, with the Real Gone Trio. 2 days laying down base tracks for their new record.
For the mic nerds: 2 Gefell UM70s overhead (in cardoid), AKG D12 on kick, Beyer M201 on snare, with a 57 on the bottom, (polarity reversed of course), and a 4033 on tom (I gate that one). Blue B6 capsule sitting on an AKG 451 body for mono room, stereo pair of 4041s on the other end of the room pointing at the ceiling , for the hell of it. We'll see if it gives us something. All going into Daking pres. Oh, and a Mr Coffee BVMC-PIX23. Very important.
