From a young age, the University of Oregon’s senior offensive lineman Marcus Harper II loved competition. As he got older, it was clear that football’s offensive line was meant to be his focus over other sports. Over the years, the position created his love for the game, and today, he’s one of the country’s best offensive guards and says he is “absolutely ready” to lead the Ducks during his final year at UO.

It is no surprise that Marcus Harper II is successful in college athletics. With a frame of 6-foot-2 and 324 pounds, he’d be a natural fit in many sports. In fact, as a child, the Oregon senior offensive lineman from Chicago Heights, Illinois, loved competition. However, football wasn’t his firs...

Eugene has a long history of practicing herbalists within the community. Herbal apothecaries like Rooted Remedies Apothecary act as gathering places for herbalists and the general public to explore their connection to the natural world and how these herbal medicines work to enhance everyday wellness. Owner Kassaundra Lynn aimed her business as a way to reconnect with the natural world and facilitate that bond with others.

Along the sleek storefront stretch of 8th Avenue between Lincoln and Charnelton, buttressed by WOW Hall and the Food For Lane County Dining Room, Rooted Remedies Community Apothecary beckons in those interested in learning and conversing about herbal medicine. A cup of tulsi in the tea nook with own...

There’s something special about sitting down to a truly authentic Italian meal — take it from longtime restaurateurs Rossella Ruggeri-Harris and Stefano Sala, owners of south Eugene’s Cafe Med. The pair were raised in Milan, and the northern Italian region’s culinary palate is reflected throughout the menu. (Not to mention that the food feels just as comforting as the restaurant’s community-based focus.)

“It’s all about the connection of people for me,” Ruggeri-Harris says. “Some people tell me that it’s like I’m going to my other living room, and it really is.” Photography by Dominick Barbero Photography LLC

There’s just something extraordinary about authentic Italian cuisine — its quality, simplicity and, of course, its endless variety of tastes and textures. Each dish is a celebration of love on a plate. That sentiment is exactly what longtime restaurateurs Rossella Ruggeri-Harris and Stefano Sala...

But as we reflect on the past, it’s also important to look toward the future. And when it comes to UO, there are plenty of ongoing developments and projects that are helping to cement the school’s cultural impact for years to come.

Beyond the iconic green and yellow, past the roaring crowds at Autzen Stadium and Hayward Field and PK Park, and beyond the historic halls of learning lies a University of Oregon few outside of the campus community know. The construction of its first building, University Hall — formerly Deady Hall...
