8 months ago my mom, the incredible Susan Schenk who is FIERCELY independent and unbelievably active, devolved from walking to barely being able to stand by herself over the course of a week. We knew that something was wrong, but couldn't have imagined the result: an emergency surgery that left my mom with multiple vertebrate fused in her spine and in a wheelchair.

Anyone who has met Susan knows she is a force of nature; she opened up her own bakery, The Bakery Depot during the pandemic, has been the head chef for Temple Shalom for 20 years, is an avid cyclist and rarely, if ever, stops moving. Now, my mom is relearning everything: how to walk on her own, how to cook... the list goes on. We recently learned that her insurance will also no longer cover her occupational and physical therapy. Without insurance, we cannot afford to pay for these services.

After much deliberation, my family and I are seeking donations to help pay for my mom's medical bills and to purchase her a recumbent bike. Without physical therapy, her doctors have recommended a recumbent as the best way for her to continue to build her strength while she continues to work on walking, but this bike and these medical bills are EXPENSIVE. I have been traveling back to Colorado as often as I can to help, but because I live in Oregon I can only do so much.

If you've ever met my mom, you know she is an incredibly kind, caring and hardworking woman who has been a part of the Colorado Springs community for more than 30 years. Any and all donations to help her and my family would be greatly appreciated. My dad the owner of Eon Studios, a small local screen printing business, has been working night and day to pay for these bills, but it is not enough. Thank you for reading this, and thank you for your support through these challenging times.

I’ve been a radio DJ since 2013; I was first accepted to KRCC 91.5 and I worked there as a volunteer and DJ until the day I left for college, playing on Saturdays from 12-2 AM. At UO, I worked for KWVA as their Programming Director starting in 2016, but was hired to DJ within my first month of school in 2015. I pulled late shifts, early morning trainings, and ran thousands of events by the time I graduated in 2019. I’ve been DJing with KWVA still, and have always been honored to rock the airwaves on 88.1; I was also lucky enough to be hired by Dub-Stuy Records in 2019 as their marketing intern and I worked with them until earlier this year, when my grad school responsibilities forced me to take a break. Because of the experiences radio gave me, I was able to join Q Mastah's amazing crew and help set-up some of the most incredible events I’ve ever seen.

But for the first time in 9 years, I’m taking a break; I’ll be traveling too much this summer to keep my show up, although I plan on returning. Radio and music are core elements of who I am, and have taken me to amazing places and people. These are just a few of the photos I have from these past 9 years. hooDoo vooDoo bEats will rock one last time tomorrow, Saturday June 10th from 4-6 PM PST. Riddims and rhymes to get you out of your seat and moving and grooving to the beat. Thanks for 9 years of love, support and music. See you soon.

#5 Izakaya Oyazi Jazz Nights, I used to do these with the homies Trott and Bryce, some very special memories
#6 Opening for Whereisalex at Cowfish downtown
#7 The Barn Light DJ Night, with Trott and Asher, first Friday on every month
#8 Behind the Scenes for Dub-Stuy Records Brooklyn Dub Club III with Iration Steppas Official, Blakkamoore, Sinai Sound System and V***n Sound. Truly a fire line up.
