Hi, I'm Bill Crawford. We are thrilled to announce that two of our valued Eugene Overhead Door Challengers broadcast sponsors from 2024 have pledged their continued support for the 2025 season, partnering with us to bring games to the airwaves on locally-owned KKNX and radio84.com. Your business is invited to join forces with this select group as we broadcast a range of non-league and Area 4 games (Medford, Roseburg, Redmond and Grants Pass), as well as all state tournament games from Joe Etzel Field at the University of Portland, the NW Regionals from Dehler Park in Billings, Montana and the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. As two-time defending Area 4 Champions and reigning State Champions, the Challengers offer a unique platform for brand promotion. Please consider lending your support by becoming a radio sponsor this summer, as we commemorate our 15th season of broadcasts on KKNX and my 10th season as the Voice of the Challengers. Hi, it's Bill Crawford, Voice of the Challengers. We're just over four months away from opening the 2025 season. Please consider being a broadcast sponsor of Eugene Overhead Door Challengers American Legion baseball on KKNX FM 105.1, AM 840 and radio84.com.

You would be with businesses that have been sponsors for several seasons who believe in what the Challengers program is about. KKNX is the only local commercial radio station in the immediate Eugene/Springfield metro area that carries local high school level sports events.

The Challengers program covers most of Lane County. Let's get together over coffee and talk about how one can be an Eugene Challengers baseball radio sponsor on KKNX. Phone/text, email or DM me. You'll be happy to be a part of the Challengers radio family. Contact me today!

This is a great time to strongly consider being an Eugene Challengers American Legion baseball broadcast sponsor this coming season on locally-owned KKNX FM 105.1, AM 840 and radio84.com! June will be here before we know it.

Last season, the Challengers finished with a record of 49 wins and 10 losses, finishing first in Area 4 (again), another state title (its fifth) and came within one game of going to its first ever American Legion World Series at the NW Regionals. In the past six seasons, the Challengers' record is a phenomenal 269 and 69! Your business will definitely want to be on board this season as the Challengers go for another Area 4 title, its sixth state title as the state tournament will be at Joe Etzel Field on the University of Portland campus, the NW Regional at Dehler Park in Billings, Montana and the American Legion World Series! Great goals to set as Head Coach Kenny Niles goes into his seventh season at the helm of Oregon's preeminent American Legion baseball program.

This season, the 15th on KKNX, we plan on broadcasting all Area 4 games (home and away with Medford, Roseburg, Redmond and Grants Pass), the home opener from beautiful Swede Johnson Stadium at Gary Selby Field in June, selected non-league games and all post-season games. Yours truly, Bill Crawford, will be back for my 10th season as the Voice of the Challengers.

Get all the details by calling/texting (541) 515-5596, email [email protected] or PM me here. Your business' support of game coverage on KKNX will be the key for us to not only continue to be one of the only media outlets in the state of Oregon to cover American Legion baseball both on the radio and online but fans all over the region, the state and the world will be able to follow Challengers baseball. Plus, it'll increase business for you when you're a sponsor, too! It's a small investment to support an outstanding American Legion baseball program and its broadcasts, so let's do this!

Here's the businesses who sponsored Challengers baseball coverage in 2024:

•Overhead Door Company of Eugene/Springfield
•Papa's Pizza

Bi-Mart Eugene Challengers Gets a New Winning Coach

David Hubbs January 8, 2019

The Bi-Mart Eugene Challengers American Legion baseball team will have a new coach this spring: Kenny Niles, a player and veteran coach, who will bring his knowledge and years of winning experience to the squad.

“On behalf of the entire Bi-Mart Eugene Challengers organization, we are excited to have Coach Kenny Niles as the next head baseball coach of our organization,” said Dale W. Hartley – President Bi-Mart Eugene Challengers Board of Directors.

The Challengers Organization has a long history and rich tradition of producing quality Championship level teams and players and Coach Niles brings to the organization his own long history and rich tradition of success.

For over 40 years the Challengers organization has competed at the highest level of American Legion baseball and we look forward to many more successful years of caring on that tradition and success with Coach Niles. Hartley said, “I encourage and invite you all to come out to our beautiful home field “Swede Johnson Stadium” and enjoy the some of the best American Legion baseball in the Pacific Northwest right here in Eugene.”

Niles is entering his 19th year as a high school baseball coach and is currently the Head Varsity Coach at Churchill High School where he has lead the Lancers to three straight semi-final appearances.

Niles graduated from Grant Union High School in 1993. During his time there he was an all-league outfielder and helped lead his team to a State Title. After high school, Niles played on the Central Oregon Community College Club team in hopes of furthering his baseball career. Niles had a career-ending illness and soon found a love for coaching.

Niles started his coaching career as the Head Coach of the Central Oregon Community College club team, and over the next 20 plus years he has coached at Mt. View, Bend, Grant Union, and Sisters High School and has received league Coach of the Year honors four times.

Before taking over the Lancers, Niles had a successful 6-year career at Sheldon High School. In 2007, he lead the Irish to the Southwest Conference title and a number #1 ranking in OSAA 6A. That team was anchored by three Oregon State signees and two players that were selected in the MLB draft. The Irish were ranked in the top 50 nationally.

One of his recent accomplishments as the Lancers head coach was winning the 2017 5A State Championship with a record of 29-3. That year Niles was selected to be the head coach of the South All-Stars in the Oregon All-Star Series. The South won the series and three of his Lancers received individual honors which included: Most Outstanding South Pitcher, Most Outstanding South Player, and Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.

During his stint at Churchill, Niles has had the honor of coaching over 10 All-State baseball selections. The Lancers have rostered the 5A State Pitcher of the Year the past three seasons, the 5A State Player of the Year in 2017, and Niles was selected the OACA Baseball Coach of the Year in 2017. In addition, 15 of his last 20 graduated seniors have gone on to play collegiately and this year’s team has six college committed players already. His Churchill summer team has won the Junior State Championship in 2017 and 2018 with a combined record of 55-6.

Niles acknowledges the list of coaches that have led the Challengers organization before him is truly amazing.

When asked what it means to become the next Challengers coach Niles said, “Some of the best baseball minds around have left a blueprint of what being a Challenger truly encompasses. We will work diligently on making sure we’re creating great student-athletes on and off the field. Being part of an organization that so many people have sacrificed so much time and effort is truly a privilege to be a part of.”

“As coaches, it is important that we realize the responsibility that comes with wearing that EC hat every day and getting to play at Swede Johnson Stadium. We will embrace this journey and provide a product the local community can proudly stand behind.”

When Kenny is not at the field he is in the classroom teaching Special Education at Churchill High School. He enjoys the outdoors but particularly the summer nights in Eugene. He likes watching baseball under the lights. Kenny is married to his wife Jennifer and they have a 2-year-old son, Camden Jacob (of course named after two baseball fields). Kenny’s parents live in Eugene and help tremendously with the family baseball experience. You will often see his father Roy mowing the field while his mother Gail is helping chase Camden around. Family means a lot to Coach Niles and that includes the players he coaches.

The Eugene Overhead Door Challengers are in need of businesses like yours to be broadcast sponsors on KKNX and radio84.com this summer. June through the end of July and hopefully into mid-August, KKNX will once again, for the 15th season, broadcast many of the regular season games on the schedule, including all Area 4 games (Medford, Klamath Falls, Roseburg, Grants Pass and Redmond) and every Challengers postseason game from the American Legion State Tournament at Joe Etzel Field at the University of Portland, the NW Regionals at Dehler Park in Billings, Montana and the World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. We had 14 sponsors in 2024 and would enjoy hearing from you regarding your interest. The Challengers are the two-time defending Area 4 Champions, the defending State Champions and are looking forward to a third Area 4 title in a row, a sixth state title and doing the best possible job beyond the state tournament. The record is 269-69 over the past six seasons, which includes a 49-10 mark in 2024. Contact Bill Crawford today so he can personally stop by and visit with you over coffee, at your office or wherever is convenient for you. Let’s do this!
