It doesn’t have to be fun, to be fun. And, as they say, it builds character…..right? And, I meant to say 8,241 feet in altitude…Only one crossing was tougher than this one, and I had to keep repeating the famous quote from David Horton:
“It Never, Always gets Worse”
Saint Ambrose fountain is up and running!
Probably a bad idea to feed the seagulls! They like to sh*t on you! Ask Mrs Uncle Tim!
Been quite awhile since I have attended the drags....Ventured over to the World Series in Cordova on Saturday.....Been years since I felt the raw power in my chest, and smelled the Nitromethane in the air! Gotta love the sights and sounds of 11,000 horsepower!
These are the stages before extinction:
The Red List has seven levels of conservation:
Least concern,
Near threatened,
Vulnerable,
Endangered,
Critically endangered, (Monarch Butterfly)
Extinct in the wild,
And Extinct.
"It Never Always gets Worse"
It never always gets worse is a signature quote from David “Horty” Horton. David Horton is an accomplished ultra runner who has won the Hardrock 100 mile run twice and who has set a number of impressive fastest known times. It never always gets worse was the advice that Horton gave to Scott Jurek as Jurek was struggling at the beginning of his Appalachian Trail, FKT attempt. Horton knows a few things about the AT, he set the FKT for the 2,189 mile trail in 1991, completing the route in 52 days.
Having run close to 90 ultramarathons over four decades, David Horton has gained some wisdom. He came up with this statement some time ago as a way to get through the low points of long races.
At mile 25 of a 50-miler, he explains, it’s easy to think, “‘If I’m dying now, how’s it gonna be at 40 to 50 miles? It’s gonna be worse.’”
Not necessarily, Horton says. Instead of wallowing in dark thoughts, listen to your body, make adjustments if needed and keep running, knowing that there’s a good chance you’ll come out of your mid-race low.
“You always have to think, ‘It never always gets worse,’” he says. “Sometimes it does, but many times it doesn’t.”
Horton’s quote is very appropriate for our times. We are living in very tough circumstances – It won’t always get worse though. It may be uncertain when our situation will improve, but we can take comfort in knowing that it will eventually get better.
