PennDOT Removes Restriction on Vehicles on I 86 & I 90 in Erie County

PennDOT has a 45 mph speed restriction on the entire length of I 86 & I 90.
While the speed reduction is in place, commercial vehicles should use the right lane only. Tier 1 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan (PDF) remains in place for the eastbound lanes of I-90 from the I-79 interchange to the New York state line and the eastbound lanes of I-86 from the I-90 interchange to the New York state line. www.511PA.com

In anticipation of bands of lake-effect snow and winter weather starting this evening, PennDOT is planning to implement temporarily restrictions on certain vehicles on Interstate 86 and Interstate 90 in Erie County.

Vehicle restrictions reflect Tier 1 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan will be in effect starting at 7 p.m. today: I-86 from the New York state line to the I-90 interchange. I-90 from the New York state line to the Ohio state line.

Under Tier 1 restrictions, the following vehicles are not permitted on affected roadways: Tractors without trailers.
· Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
· Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers.
· Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV.
· Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.
· Recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
· School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.
· Motorcycles.

At 11 p.m. today, the restrictions are expected to change to Tier 3 for the same roadways.

On roadways with Tier 3 restrictions in place, no commercial vehicles are permitted EXCEPT loaded single trailers with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices. Additionally, all school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted on affected roadways while restrictions are in place.

Works encourages the public to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow whenever

Our Erie Playhouse has announced that, for the safety of the Playhouse patrons, staff and volunteers, they have made the difficult decision to postpone the FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6 performance of DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, as well as Friday’s Premiere Weekend Celebration and after-party. CLARIFICATION FOR PENNDOT RESTRICTIONS: Under a Tier 3 restriction, only passenger vehicles not towing trailers, and single load commercial vehicles with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices should be traveling on the effected roadways.
Tier 3 level restrictions and a speed limit reduction of 45mph are in place on the following highways: I-90, entire length. I-86, entire length. I-79, north of I-80.
