Photographers learn about the rule-of-thirds, among other photo lessons, and copy desk—the unsung heroes of the paper—help ensure The Observer doesn’t print any inaccurate information. For those interested in any of those positions, please enroll in the class or email [email protected]. Also email if you are interested in freelancing.

On the evening of Nov. 6, the night after Election Day, black men, women and children and other people of color across the nation received targeted text messages proclaiming extreme racist sentiment. CWU student, Izellah Rainier, was one of the victims of this harassment. Rainier posted about the text message on her TikTok. Her video has amassed 3.1 million views and 644.3 thousand likes. “There’s no sort of full healing from receiving a message like this,” Rainier said. “It’s just very disgusting and terrible and sick. Back-to-back in NOLA. 🏆 ✌🏼🏆

After placing third at the spring conference in La Jolla, The Observer has placed third again in the Associated Collegiate Press Best of Show Awards for a Newspaper / Newsmagazine (Four-year campus, 15,000 or fewer) at the Fall National Media Convention in New Orleans!

Our staff is very proud of each other and thrilled to have had the opportunity to compete in this category once again. We’re equally proud of our sister publication for placing fourth in their category!

We’re excited to get back to Ellensburg and continue producing news for the students, by the students.
