The Elkhorn Independent was established in 1853. It was then that Edgar J. Farnum, from a farm in the Town of Geneva, put out the first Independent. The first paper published in Elkhorn, and in the county was the Western Star, first issue Aug. 8, 1845; edited by George Gale and Francis Utter. The Western Star was absorbed by the Independent, and the paper was at one time known as the Walworth County Independent. Now the Independent is owned by Southern Lakes Newspapers.

Hello Everyone! Looks like winter is coming!! We have a wintery, windy, wet day ahead of us tomorrow and I don't know about you but I'd rather not be out there in the cold and wet on the roadway if I don't have to! Please plan to leave early tomorrow for work or school so you can take your time and be safe! And if you don't have to go out, please don't! STAY SAFE.. and have a wonderful day!!

Line the streets and wish our Elks Soccer team good luck at State!

The State-bound Elkhorn Boys Soccer team will be leaving the High School, heading out of town on Friday, November 8, at 9:30 a.m. Their bus will make a quick loop down Geneva Street, over Jackson Street, and then up Court Street as they head to Milwaukee for the big game!

Help us send them off in style - line the streets and give them a cheer as they take on Homestead at 1:30 p.m.

Weekly Construction Update

•Bridge work complete.
•Asphalt paving near the bridge wrapped up earlier this week, crews are currently working on aggregate shoulders, guardrail, pavement markings and other finishing items in this area.
•Aggregate shoulder work South of County A started yesterday and will continue into next week.
•Pavement marking work continues and will be ongoing through the weekend into next week.
