From Gretchen: "I can't believe I get to work with brands like D&D! I feel like ✨that girl✨ when casually name dropping to my TTRPG friends. It's so fun being able to go into a random game store ANYWHERE and most likely finding something I or Tony worked on!"

For Dungeons & Dragons' 50th anniversary, Vala designed officially licensed packaging for DND sets! Here's a little video showing them. Gretchen and Tony have been absolutely killing it on any and all DND designs. It's no wonder why - we are a group of gamers ourselves here at Vala, and we love working with TTRPG, gaming, and fandom brands.

Working on The Walking Dead dice tray and dice sets was big for Tony! He is a big fan of The Walking Dead, including the comics, the show, and the spin-off series. After he finished the packaging and the concepts, he was informed that Robert Kirkman himself would review his designs and approve them for production 🤯 🤯 🤯
..and yes, those are severed limbs in the inclusion dice 😱

Designing these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle custom box designs definitely brought back memories from Tony's childhood!

"I've been a lifelong fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, from the original 1980s cartoons to the recent movies. My favorite TMNT film is 'TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze' - I watched it millions of times while growing up. My favorite turtle is Donatello. I also loved playing the TMNT: Turtles in Time Super Nintendo game! As a kid, I even had TMNT underwear!"

It's safe to say Tony was a TMNT fan growing up, and is having a lot of fun working on these pieces!

One of Rachel's favorite projects from 2024 was shooting all of the Catan products! Here are some of the pictures she took.

"It's been really fun getting to work on some of the big brands this year, especially Catan because I've been playing that game for...15 years??? It's been one of my favorite games for a long time, so it's been really fun getting to see the behind the scenes of new products being developed, and getting to be one of the first people to see new samples in person when I take product photos."

We are helping with product design, graphic design, illustration, marketing, ads, social media, and more! The original World's Largest Dungeon was a Guinness record holder, so it has been super exciting for the team to get their hands on! 😍

Starting at zero isn’t easy, but the work we did with QuasiReal Publishing on MythCraft proves it’s absolutely possible! 💪

Through social media, advertisements, and email campaigns, we were able to strategically grow their pre-launch followers to nearly 1,500 and their email list to 5,000. With 20% conversion rates, their community was more than ready to back this TTRPG on Kickstarter! Getting people there is only half the battle though. Once they arrived, it was important that they were greeted with very engaging copy, graphics, mockups, designs, and artwork to guide them through the Kickstarter.

Vala 2024 Sizzle Reel

The 2024 Vala Reel is finally here! 🎬 So pumped to see us continue to expand our client roster with industry giants like Hero Forge, FanRoll, and Monument Hobbies to name just a few! We've nurtured our current partnerships as they experienced phenomenal growth. We've won prestigious branding awards for our ECCVB rebrand. We've launched not one, not two, but THREE successful Kickstarters! We have a fantastic team right now, and we can't wait to see what this next year brings!

Hero Forge Video - Behind the Scenes

🎥 🎲 Hero Forge came to Vala looking for a stylized video to show off their premium painted mini figures. The important aspects of this project included visuals with saturated colors, shots in a warm cabin, and showing people having fun playing a TTRPG. Here's a look behind the scenes of that shoot! These projects are incredibly fun for our team because of all the details we put into the location to make it feel lived in. They can also introduce a lot of challenges! The biggest challenge for a shoot like this is the logistics of piecing together the right location, hiring actors, set design, and shooting while keeping it all within our client's budget. The most rewarding part is when everything comes together and flows smoothly because of all the preplanning that went into it. With this project, we got to push the boundaries of our lighting to make the product feel elevated. It's not as simple as just showing up to the location and filming. We have to think about if there is a place to eat for the actors and crew, a place for the actors to change, are there restrooms, can we fit all of the equipment in, or will the sun be in the right spot? It takes a village to make a project like this and it is amazing to see how everyone works together to complete it at the highest quality for the client!
