Founder’s Story
"Faith, fitness, and forgiveness merge when we actively seek God's will and minister to those around us." -Karen Gardner
As the widow of a 2006 shooting spree victim of television photo journalist Jon R. Johnson, who was slain in Elk Grove, California, Karen R. Gardner has managed to transform her “from ashes to beauty” experiences and found her way to her divine calling. God has turned Karen’s tragedy into triumph, giving her a new life’s message. Many people after suffering from a life tragedy simply stop living. Karen’s compelling life messages of renewed faith, fitness, and forgiveness brings a fresh new approach to grief, giving people permission to simply live again!
As a result, Karen found Covered & Kept Ministries. The nonprofit focused on helping the homeless population and those recovering at women’s shelters. We had the privilege to partner with Lutheran services on some of the workshops and bible studies. Since the beginning of 2020, Covered & Kept Ministries has grown and started several new projects:
