I know I’ve said it before, but this week in Sacramento is gonna be a scorcher! Expecting 110+ through Sunday! I just watered my little garden. I hope my vegi’s can tolerate this heat wave! My zucchini plants are producing well. I must have harvested a dozen zucchini’s already. The cherry tomato plants are loaded and the bell peppers are slow growing, but I think that’s expected. I have one Gypsy Pepper on the vine. Does anyone know when to remove it? I’m not sure of it will change color or not?

Here is a look at my next group of weekend flips. A pair of nightstands, writing desk, a sewing table, to be repurposed as a side table, and an ironing board, which will be upcycled for home decor. I just heard we are looking at a heat wave this week with 105-110+ temps. 😳 Looks like I’ll be
working on some inside projects. Stay cool everyone!

This piece was a fun and creative endeavor. I wanted to create an Americana themed piece and used a vintage truck from Redesign with Prima’s “The Wheels of Time” decoupage tissue paper and applied it with Decoupage Matte Gel to the front of the the chest. Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paints (In the Navy, Mermaid Tail, Peacock and Fluff) were blended to create the sky on the top drawer and sides. I painted the American Flag and used Dixie Belle To***co Road Voodoo Gel Stain to antique and complement the paper. I distressed and top-coated the hand painted areas with Dixie Belle Clear Coat - Satin. SOLD - Weekend flip! I like to pick and upcycle this size side table. They are great for corner spaces, plant stands, night stands and entry ways. I was getting low on a couple paint colors and created a custom mix using Dixie Belle Paint Company SILK All-in-One Mineral Paint - 50/50 Tide Pool and Serenity. I applied 2 coats of Dixie Belle Clear Coat - Flat for added protection on the table top. The hardware was cleaned and finished with metallic gold spray paint. This was a fun custom project. The color requested for this curio cabinet was burnt orange. After mixing several Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint color combinations, I created a color recipe using 3 parts Florida Orange with 1 part H***y Tonk Red. I finished the entire piece with Best Dang Wax Clear and added Brown Wax in the details. Before pic in comments.

I’ve got my lineup for my next series of weekend flips. I finally found a pair of nightstands that are a perfect match to a tallboy dresser I flipped about a year ago. They are solid but the tops are scratched and I’ll need to repair some dings before painting. I’ve got some ideas for the 2 small chests and side table. They are great sizes for one color flips or to try different paint techniques and embellishments.

Sold - Transform ordinary wood ducks into pieces of art with napkin decoupage! I picked some ready-to-paint wood ducks at a barn sale and added a touch of elegance with floral napkins. I purchased 2 different napkin designs and used a water pen to tear and remove the florals from each napkin. For the base coat, I painted the duck with Dixie Belle Fluff and applied the napkin pieces with Dixie Belle Satin Clear Coat to create a beautiful floral collage. It's a fun and easy technique that anyone can do!

Sold - Here is another upcycle using Dixie Belle Paint Company patina paint and sprays. I used Dixie Belle iron and copper patina paints with the green, blue and yellow sprays to achieve this look. The rust and patina accentuate the rooster's details, creating a truly eye-catching piece. I started this project 2 days ago and the patina has continued to process to create this look.

Here is a fun repurposing idea. I saw a post on Pinterest repurposing an old iron headboard as garden art and trellis. I picked up this piece after summer last year in anticipation of using it in my own garden. I have it secured behind my cherry tomato plants. We’ll see how it works out. I think it will be pretty with the vines and bright red cherry tomatoes attached to it.

Sold - I like to pick up these wood totes when I see them. They’re fun to create with and are useful for storage, garden tools or even a mini planter. I decoupaged the entire outside of the tote with Roycycled Treasures Corrugated Metal decoupage paper and added rusty handles and rusty letters to spell “GARDEN” for a fun embellishment.

Hello, my name is Kimberly Wallace. I’m the owner and creative at The Chalked Trunk. I have always been a crafter and DIY enthusiast. I like to attend Vintage Markets and I like to decorate by upcycling and repurposing, mixing old with new. Above all, I LOVE painting furniture! I started by finding and painting pieces for my own home because I could never find what I liked in retail stores. Not to mention, the prices were over the top! There is so much character and durability in a vintage piece of furniture, and finding outdated, solid wood pieces to paint is just a bigger palette for me to create something beautiful.
