This was approximately 6 years ago as Don Shapiro and I were doing research for our book Power at the Pass as well as our Docuseries.
We met with business titan and ex Juarez mayor Jaime Bermudez. He was 94 and Don 91. A few months after this meeting Jaime passed away.
We met at legendary @losarcosrestaurants Jaime’s main bodyguard was the chief of police. And Jaime’s home was on Insurgentes street next to Juan Gabriel’s home.
Side note 📝 Don wouldn’t let me drive. He was adamant.

We created a 20 minute documentary that outlines the key cultural pivotal role that El Paso played in one of the first ever mayor motion pictures that has a Latino superhero with a majority Latino cast and a brilliant Latino director in @angelmanuelsoto
He was the reason we were able to develop this narrative that is just beginning. We have a Power at the Pass Transmission (newsletter) that we’re proactively telling our compelling story that is an authentic reflection of the subject matters we focus on.
Today we sent out our Transmission focusing on the role Latin/ChicanX community places in the visual storytelling arts. Our Transmission is coordinated by our dynamic intern @babylivvia

Back in 1017, we traveled to Los Angeles to produce a music video for @sammystrittmatter
Simultaneously, the Shapiro’s decided to travel as well to go visit Don’s younger brother, legendary producer, most famous for producing to most successful TV series of all time in Seinfeld.
Don and I were working on finishing Don’s life story, Power at the Pass, which included obviously George Shapiro. It was truly amazing befriending George. He was awesome, so gregarious and authentic. He died in May of 2022. So now Don joined the family in the cosmic, spirit realm that is as palpable as this here post that you’re experiencing..
