El Paso entrepreneur Enoch Kimmelman is testing the region’s appetite for luxury goods with the reopening of Union Fashion, a high-end clothing store. The retailer, which closed in 2015, is part of Kimmelman’s plan to revive The Shoppes at Solana, formerly known as Sunland Park Mall on the Westside.

The buds are in bloom for Sunland Park’s ma*****na business. Sales of recreational ma*****na in Sunland Park, the city of 17,700 people on El Paso’s doorstep, totaled $49.4 million from January to November – a 35% increase over the same period last year.

“To be frank, this was expected,” Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea says. “Having this niche with the cannabis industry, it was going to happen. I guarantee you that many of the people who buy products from cannabis dispensaries within Sunland Park are not from New Mexico.”

Sunland Park, a neighboring New Mexico town west of El Paso, continues riding high as its cannabis industry blossoms.

Housing Opportunity Management Enterprises, or HOME, hosted an unveiling Thursday of a mural created by El Paso artist Andrew Joseph Perez at the public housing authority’s newest affordable housing development, Nuestra Señora Apartments.
