He struggled to recover from a disastrous debate and Democrats' doubts.
The media landscape is changing. I get it. It’s all I’ve been hearing for the past 10 years. (And it is true. No one is denying that.) Despite that, I still chose to take on this career and serve my community in this capacity. Why? Because I knew I needed to be a voice for MY community. Our commitment as journalists has not changed, even as the world around us has. I can’t help but think of all of the local journalists who are making some tough decisions right now. They are trying to find their next job and get their next paycheck. Just think about that for a moment. The stories they told were vital. They made a difference. What they did every day was necessary. They might be “competition,” but at the end of the day, we are working for the same cause, you. Local news is important, and I will stand by that every single day. I hope you know our commitment is YOU as we tell the stories that matter to you on a daily basis. You are the reason we keep going, especially when it gets hard. I hope you continue to trust us, even despite the changing landscape. Our commitment will not waiver.
This is how I’ll remember Maribel Veach: as a fighter with a beautiful, contagious smile.
I met her around this same time last year. She was battling breast cancer, but she also survived the August 3rd Walmart mass shooting-escaping the store as the shooter went on his rampage. Both situations changed her perspective on life.
I remember she didn’t hold back and was so open about sharing her story. She still had so much hope despite her diagnosis.
I can still hear her asking me at the end of our interview, "Can we take a picture for my scrapbook?"
She really wanted to guide others facing a similar journey, and she did just that.
I learned over the weekend she passed. I am thankful I got the chance to meet her and tell her story of hope and resilience. I know her story will continue to help many people.
Maribel kept fighting until the very end. She never stopped. Please keep her family in your prayers during this difficult time. 🙏💗

Last night, I introduced you to this woman, Irene Augustain-Lopez. Her health continues to deteriorate. She is in urgent need of a liver transplant. Because of some intricacies, she doesn’t qualify to be on the deceased donor's list, making her health journey much more challenging. Her family is calling on the community for help.
Some of you have asked how you can help, and at this moment, their #1 goal is finding a liver donor. You’ll find a link to the online application on KVIA.com. The family knows their organ donor match is out there. 💚

What a wonderful afternoon getting to hear all about the great things happening in the Philippines! I first connected with Hilary Overton almost a year ago when I interviewed her for a story. She’s an El Pasoan who started a birth clinic in Cebu over 20 years ago! Today I got to meet her in person and learn more about Glory Reborn and the work that is being done daily. 💜
Thank you Great American Steakburger for hosting such a great luncheon!
If you want to learn more about the Glory Reborn ministry, here’s my story from last year!

It’s hard to put into words how hard it is to say goodbye to someone you’ve worked so closely with. Tonight is Sam Harasimowicz’s final newscast at ABC-7. We have been anchoring and producing the weekend shows together for the last year and a half. It has been a true adventure!
We started working at the station just days apart. I’ve seen him go from producing overnights to reporting, trying out sports (and doing a fantastic job, by the way), and now producing and anchoring our weekend prime newscasts. He really is so multifaceted and so diverse in his talents.
I am proud of how far he has come and the journalist he has become.
He is by far the funniest, most entertaining, and larger-than-life person in our newsroom. But he’s always so down to earth—always making you feel special. He really brightens up a room and is so fun to be around and watch! I know our viewers will miss your contagious energy every night!
But I am so glad you took a chance on El Paso! Any newsroom is lucky to have you! You will be missed, but I know this is just the beginning of such a fun and exciting career in TV!
Tonight will be my final weekend newscast at ABC-7. I’ve truly worked with some of the best during my time here. It has been a bittersweet last few weeks and I know there will be tears at some point. I hope you can join me later tonight. 📺📺
