Botello Productions™ (SBP) est. 2006 created the International Mobile Film Festival, San Diego's Mobile Film School (non-accredited) & Mobile Film Stories: Smartphone Video & Film Streaming Service & Community Space. Botello Productions™ was created to provide video production services to small businesses and to empower youth through filmmaking opportunities to young adults and youth through paid

training. In the summer of 2006 she decided to start her own business to provide opportunities in film and video as she worked with film crews in film projects and jobs. Their stories were simple: They had a dream to be a part of the filmmaking industry and some of them had a screenplay or two which they struggled to get off the ground mostly due to lack of funding and knowing the "right" people to make it happen. When Susan came back from working on a film in Big Bear, California she decided that the idea she had years before which she came back to from time to time was something she could invest in. That idea was secured with a vision that although not everyone ha a cell phone with a camera yet, it was just a matter of time when everyone on the planet would have one or access to one. She began to form a strategy around the idea of making mobile filmmaking with cell phone cameras into a real opportunity for people of all ages anywhere in the world. She realized her idea needed to begin now in order to provoke manufacturers to create better cameras on phones at the same time that people would use the cameras on their phones to create, not just home videos, but actual cinematic films and movies. She began her search for a sponsor to secure a venue where she could project films shot with mobile phones on a big screen and and roll out the red carpet for attending filmmaker whom she would invite to share mobile filmmaking with a live audience and providing them with the same experience and respect that all other independent filmmakers experience in traditional film festivals. Susan was pretty stubborn about the necessity to provide a live venue for the film festival. She knew she could have a film festival online anytime. However, she persevered until finally, in 2012, she was granted a venue through the college where she graduated as an alumni. She could finally present the films on a big screen and prove to the world that mobile filmmaking was a viable option to get a foot into the door of the industry. The last weekend of April 2012, after several postponed festival dates due to lack of a venue, the inaugural International Mobil Film Festival™ took place with 9 films submitted and selected to screen. It had a number of attending filmmakers, including one filmmaker who traveled to San Diego from Macedonia to be a part of it, a red carpet awards ceremony and a mobile filmmaking workshop. Susan has persevered and continued to hold the film festival diligently on the last weekend of April annually. IMFF 2017 took place the last weekend of 2017 and received over 260 film submissions. The Mobile Film School (non-accredited) was launched officially on September 4, 2012 and MFTV launched July 4, 2013.

Our Story

Founded and owned by Susan Botello, S. Botello Productions™ was created to provide video production services to small businesses and to empower youth through filmmaking opportunities to young adults and youth through paid training. Susan Botello gained experience in video production professionally in 1998 as a freelancer. That was in April 2009. She began to form a strategy around the idea of making mobile filmmaking with cell phone cameras into a real opportunity for people of all ages anywhere in the world. She realized her idea needed to begin now in order to provoke manufacturers to create better cameras on phones at the same time she would challenge people with cameras on their phones to create, not just home videos, but actual cinematic films and movies to screen in an exclusive film festival venue on a big screen competing with only films shot with phones. Susan was pretty stubborn about the necessity to provide a live venue for the unique film festival only for films shot with phone cameras. She knew she could have a film festival online anytime. However, she persevered until finally, in 2012, she was granted a venue through the college where she graduated as an alumni. She could finally present the films on a big screen and prove to the world that mobile filmmaking was a viable option to get a foot into the door of the industry. And so the story unfolds.
