The COVID-19 virus has caused widespread disruption in treatment and services and increased the strain on our mental health to new levels. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, despair, substance addiction, self-harm, and su***de ideation are all increasing, yet getting help, especially professional assistance, is more complicated than ever.
Our global community was unprepared to deal with mental health concerns before or after the COVID-19 pandemic. The global prevalence of anxiety disorders and mental or substance disorders is estimated to be 284 million and 970 million people, respectively. Su***de ranks the second leading cause of mortality among those aged 15–29 worldwide. But just 2% of healthcare budgets are allocated to mental health services. These alarming statistics reveal a worldwide pandemic of inactivity concerning mental health.
