Touch-A-Truck rescheduled for June 17

With wet and stormy weather in this weekend’s forecast, Edmond Electric’s annual Touch-A-Truck event has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the University of Central Oklahoma parking lot #6.

Touch-A-Truck is a fundraising event benefiting The Hope Center of Edmond, allowing kids of all ages to experience life-size vehicles and interact with community support leaders like law enforcement officers, firefighters, lineworkers, and others from local businesses. Families will have the opportunity for hands-on exploration of the many City of Edmond vehicles such as fire trucks, police cars, an Edmond Electric bucket truck, a solid waste truck, plus more from the community like tow trucks, storm tracker vehicles, hot air balloons, and construction equipment.

Admission for the Touch-A-Truck event is a suggested $2 donation with all proceeds going to The Hope Center of Edmond to benefit residents in need.

The last event displayed more than 30 vehicles, a helicopter, kid-friendly characters, and face painting for kids to enjoy and raised $6,500 for The Hope Center of Edmond.

Continuing in 2023, there will be a quiet hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to accommodate those sensitive to loud noises. During this time, no horns or loud music will be allowed.

To find out more about the event visit www.edmondelectric.com/touchatruck or contact Hannah Stewart with Edmond Electric at 405-216-7462 or [email protected].

It is with profound sadness that we release the name of our fallen brother, Sergeant C.J. Nelson, 38, a loving husband, and father to an 11-year-old daughter and seven-year- old son. Sergeant Nelson’s passing leaves a hole in the lives of those who loved him and in the community of Edmond that will never be filled. Sergeant Nelson dedicated himself to his family and serving a community that he loved. Today would have been Sergeant Nelson's 13th anniversary with the Edmond Police Department. Sergeant Nelson is the first Edmond Police Officer to lose his life in the line of duty. The Edmond Police Department, the City of Edmond, and the Edmond community are indebted to C.J. Nelson and his family for their sacrifice. Please continue to lift up the Nelson family, the Edmond Police Department, and the Edmond community with prayers for comfort and healing. Rest easy brother, we’ll take it from here. 519 EOW 7-19-22

Fretz Road closed at Danforth Road beginning July 20
Part of work on continuing Danforth Water Line Project

As part of the Danforth Water Line Project, Fretz Road will be closed at the traffic light at Danforth Road beginning the morning of July 20. Work on the project is expected to take one week, with cooperative weather.

No through traffic on Fretz Road will be possible while the work is being completed. Motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route if possible.

Work on the water line project accommodates construction of part of the new 24-inch water line across Danforth. The $9.2 million Danforth Water Line project will upsize the water line running along Danforth Road from the existing Danforth Water tower at the soccer fields to the UCO area. Once complete, the old College Water tower will be demolished. The project is currently under construction.
